Terribly underrated. Interesting architecture and good gameplay, except on UV where it's too hard (people complaining about too many monsters should play on easier difficulty levels before they whine.) 4/5

I love the look of this WAD and the gameplay. Wandering spider masterminds FTW. I got stuck after the area through the red door though. 3.5/5 NT

Wow! That's a very long level, maybe a bit too long for my taste (took my 1.5 hour and also I was searching with doombuilder near the middle because I was stuck). But the map design is very inspiring and the action is great, even though I'd wish for more health (had to play iddqd at 1-2 points). 4/5 - Optimus

Huge, good layout and looking, but easy to get boring... In the later of level, I forgot to save for a while and die, then I must start all over about 30 mins ago......and I just fuck it and give up because I don't want to take other 40+ mins to play again and beat it... :\ 3/5 -playerlin

I have played this, i dont like too much, because the gameplay just sucks, too many monsters and no aligned textures. anyway the design is good, but need too much fixes. 2/5

I have no idea why this has 2.5 stars. There is way to little health on UV, but on other difficulty levels it's quite fun and a really cool-looking old-school map. 4/5

Unplayable in ports without true mouselook. You get stuck after the first skull switch - the second one is too high for autoaim to hit. Zero stars for not testing properly and not mentioning the above in the TXT. - N_A

Thanks to N_A for working out what was wrong with this wad. I thought something was up but didn't have the patience to track it down, and just deleted the wad. Another 0/5 for poor testing and unclear info.

      I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

      Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression.       A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

      Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

      I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
