About This File

You know Doom, it is always the same, get some weapons, infiltrate the destroyed UAC base or demon hive, kill all the monsters and hellspawn and find the exit switch. This was Doom... until now: Stronghold is a mixture of Unreal Tournament's Assault mode and Skulltag's Invasion mode. Defend your Stronghold against hundreds of monsters, divided into several waves. Earn points, get rewards between waves and let no single enemy pass!

This is a pretty fun mapset to play. Don't let the lower ratings detract from the very fast paced, entertaining and nice looking aspects of it. Plus it's 40 maps long so it'll keep you busy without getting bored. Just try to tune out all the "needs more detail" or "this and all his work sucks" and "0 stars" trolls. Honestly, it's just a game, grow up!

I envy Tormentor so I'm going to vote it down, as that is the only possible reason anyone would have for not liking his work. There I saved all you highly educated psychotherapists the trouble of analyzing me. 3 stars for envy!

Nice. In all fairness to the second to last poster, cod is a steaming pile. It is sacrilige to even attempt to compare that lowbrow cash grab to doom.

To me, the maps are like a blend of KDIZD and DE in terms of style. Gameplay is unique and bounds of fun. Every map has some form of twist and turn. For best expierience, multiplayer is the way to go.

It's not why it's Tormentor. It's not why it's for G/ZDoom/Skulltag. It's not why it's Invasion, with some twists. Obviously a lot of work has went into this and a 2 goes for the effort. But detracting 3 because while you can dress it up anyway you want, it just ultimately suffers from the redundancy of everything we've seen before and shouldn't be a real surprise as much as people wanted it years ago, the overdue wait turned out to a mediocre affair. 2/5

Despite all the hype that it doesn't live up to (and the numerous bugs), Stronghold is definitely not bad. It's a blast to play multiplayer, and typically is well polished and plays alright. Though it has plenty of shortcomings, it still deserves a 4/5 in my eyes.

Not very good... yeah, you've got pretty lights and skyboxes, that's for sure. But the gameplay gets dull after map 3 and the time attack mode isn't balanced on skill 4. I mean who came up with those par times ? The whole idea of replayability is killed then. 2.5/5 for the effort, still.

Anyone know how to get the green key card? Also, it's fun, but sometimes a little repetitive and boring. And finding the secrets are a pain. 3/5

Every mode of gameplay in this levelset was fucked. Deadline is impossible when hundreds of blood demons (nigh-invincible tanks faster than standard Demons) are quite literally thrown at your face, and anything with the targets in an open area is designed to troll due to the fact that monsters shoot projectiles perfectly accurately from the moment they're spawned (making Giant Cycloid fights not the Shadow of the Colossus moment like it would have been). 1/5 for unexpectedly shit gameplay

If you're a fan of Invasion maps, HR-style gameplay, or just plain want to shoot some hellspawn up without having to fumble around looking for keys and switches, you'll probably love this. A couple maps have confusing layouts, but most of them are pretty well thought out.

I think it's simply a question of persional taste. You can't argue about the effort put into this, the level of detail is fine, the variety of maps is pleasing and if you are into Invasion-style maps, you will definitely like this. 5/5

A good example of what people can bring us using the good old Doom engine.. It completely renovates the gameplay and well... pretty much everything. But if I want to get personal, it just doesn't feel like my sort of thing. You get new weapons, gameplay, monsters, etc. And do you get a great atmosphere in return? No, you don't. I give it a 7/10 but only because of the work that was put into it. -spadeKing23-

The custom monsters kinda cheapen the experience. Also I hated the music for the first "Earth" map, most of the time it sounded like my telephone was ringing. 3/5

Don't excite me the maps of invasion, but nevertheless must acknowledge the effort put into it. For enthusiasts must be a wonder, to me is not bad.

Boring gameplay, but thats just taste I guess. This gets a low score from me because Skulltag did it better. No amount of effort makes up for lousy gameplay. Period. Quit being fanboys of t667 and give his wads the ratings they deserve. 3/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
