Base Ganymede: Episode 2

About This File

Another 8 vanilla compatible levels set on the moon Ganymede. For your average skill level Doomer (you all hit UV anyway), but speedrunners have certainly been catered for as well!

Note that while I haven't disabled jump or crouch in a mapinfo lump (I prefer to let the player do whatever they choose), it's possible they'll break the maps. I've tried to prevent this where possible, but some areas would require too much work for it. And remember to choose Episode 2, not 1, when playing...

this is more trap-oriented than the first. I really hate it when a monster teleports directly behind my back or when they instaappear in front of my face, and that happens quite a lot. the overall quality of the maps is pretty neat though.

A good third of a good trilogy, but rather moot since the complete release is out.

A great WAD. It looks nice and is a really solid challenge, using the more limited DOOM monsters effectively, and offers difficulty settings for those getting slapped around on UV. I enjoyed being one of the testers for this project!

I played all 9 maps, which is something I hardly ever do because of my small attention span while playing Doom. I can safely say that this deserved a cacoward instead of a lot of the other ones on there.

Awesome. I was under health pressure the whole time. I think only when I got to lvl 7 I had more than 50%. The devil trap is the skull in the pit that triggers the cacos (lvl 5 I think) - I got out of that with 7%.

Khorus has put up a bugfix version in the DW thread, but doesn't seem to have uploaded it here yet. http://www.doomworld .com/vb/post/946137 anyway, the flow and height variation here is top notch, very fast gameplay. A favourite. 5/5

Certainly had a tough time with this one, being kept constantly low on health throughout most maps. Another excellent classic Doom episode - I only noted one bug, where one of the imp teleport destinations in E2M6 is close enough to a wall and small green torch in ZDoom that the imps get stuck standing on top of it. 5* -Phobus

Really good, quite tough on first play through dies a couple of times. Please make Episode 3 and then Episode 4 :) I found the teleport traps a bit annoying at times and maybe a bit over used but that's not going to affect my rating. 5/5 dwrTag

It's medium. Architecture is somewhat above average but very chaotic, all over the place, and not particularly appealing or memorable. Light level hovers around 160 the whole way through. Gameplay ranges from standard shlock to good. Lots to filler monsters, but some good fights as well. I'm pretty sick of enemies instapopping out of the floor, walls opening when you grab keys and such though. The end level's a good challenge, I will say, without being overly ridiculous. 3/5 for me. I wasn't sure about this wad when I first started it up. To be honest, the first couple of levels need a touch of work, not so much in terms of gameplay, but perhaps architecture. But once I had finished the entire wad I realized how brilliant it was. These levels flow SO well. The traps and gameplay rule! This is a guy who knows how to keep you on your toes. Extremely impressed, dude. 5/5 -Stormwalker

This was fantastic. I rarely come back here to review a wad after I've played it, so hey, I hope this is saying something.

I expected something better because of the score. But I was disappointed. The gameplay is a bit tricky and not too challenging. It's a very good mapset, but I prefer the first part. E2M7 has a bug at the end in the ground when goint to push the last switch. 3.5/5

What a wonderful sequel to a wonderful episode. I've been looking forward for this for a while and I'm definitely not disappointed. Kudos to you, Khorus, you may have created my favorite Ultimate Doom wad ever after 2002ADO. Can't wait for Episode 3! 5* - Moti

This really shouldn't be siting around any more with the whole episodes set finished now. But that ignored, it's just as good as the other two episodes, just an obsolete file.

A good Doom, vanilla episode? Count me in. One of my favorites made, honestly. Better than episode 1 for sure, and that wasn't bad to begin with.

Greatness is definitely not out of reach in terms of this wad's quality (reference /newstuff review). This is outstanding stuff. Five full starts.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
