About This File

8-map hub set in the Black Mesa military-industrial facility within the Half-Life universe. The game is story-driven and features multiple objectives. It uses the excellent textures of Half-Life, sprite-based enemies and non-player characters from Half-Life, models (some of them interactive), true 3D environments and other features of GZDooM. Tested with GZDooM

This is a near-perfect recreation, the best wad ever in terms of technical achievement, and it's pretty fun and challenging. (and it was made in WA :P)

Very challenging gameplay, impressive level design layout, definite close feel to the original Halfe Life with a twists. Would love to see a hub done in Duke Nukem style, if that's ever possible? - Doom Masta

Boring, repetitive, failing, copying&pasting attempt to create a HL-based mod. And where the hell is the crossbow??? 0/5

Probably not everyone's cup of tea, but if you want to see the GZDoom engine pushed to its limits this map set is for you. Also amazing likeness to the Half-Life game - weapons, enemies, atmosphere. Excellent Decorate code plus terrific heads up display. Clever map design and some brutal fights, and cool music. Well-crafted models, properly used. Dynamic cut-scenes. The list goes on .... 5/5

If DBThanatos (Thanatoast) is on the team, who is a member of the somewhat well-known Gman Squad, why in god's green earth isn't there a single Gman in this mod? Maybe he's too wrapped up in Freeman's business, but the gman was literally everywhere so that's no excuse. There is also no excuse for how awesome this is, especially when compared to Paranoia. My only problem is that the room-above-room basically breaks the automap and the hub system makes the markers useless.

If you can get over the why bother? Why not just use the Half-Life engine to make a Half-Life map? Which is what I was initially thinking while playing it then you are in for a treat (if you like Half-Life) because this is just great. 5/5 dwrTag

I agree, would love to see more HUB example wads in the making than the traditional advancing from single stage to stage. The HUB style offers better vareity of challenges and gameplay dynamics/mechanics allowing Doom players/developers/m appers earning inspiration alot quicker. Keep it up! 5/5 - Doom Masta

Wow! Perfect! Was that a dream? I remember playing Half-life years ago and, while playing this, at times, I actually forgot I was playing Doom. Most wads are played and binned, this however is a keeper. Thanks for the thrilling 7 hours guys. More please :) 5/5 all day long.

Nice to be Gordon Freeman again. For a little fun, just before you upload the virus, crouch. Now as you go to the cut scene, you will be a small child :) 5/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
