About This File

This is an E2M1 level that could just as easily be an E1M1 version but to keep it out of shareware hands I made it an E2. (really guys, you should go ahead and register. You won't be disappointed.) The idea here wasn't to create a huge level but instead this is to be used as a launching point for additional levels/missions. The puzzles are basic and the shootouts (IMHO) are fun rather than always being cut-throat.

Surprisingly good... for a 1994 WAD. Sure, I'll give it some credit for being from back in the day, but for sure this didn't need a re-upload. There is a blue key and a yellow key which you don't even need to get to flip the exit switch. The bosses are not even bosses because they are not manditory to fight. ** + * for being a blast from the past. ***

0/5 not for the wad, but for the uploader. You've included nothing from the author giving permission to reupload (even though such a txt exists), and apparently didn't care. The text-file you have made is farcical. Apparently, this wad was on D!Zone 2 (including txt).

This is an actual 1994 WAD, larger than average and as a result very sparsely populated, with a grand total of 51 monsters (on UV). There's exactly one Cacodemon and one Baron of Hell as "bosses", but you literally have to go out of your way to find them, as you can just flick the exit switch 30 seconds into the level. Detail and layout are crude but with clever use of lighting, and the SFX replacements are corny most of the time, but a few are actually decent. A good blast into the past. 2.5/5 -Maes

A classic shitty 1994 wad, lighting is cool, but it's only. Put exit switch too early without any reason so you can just finish it in some seconds if you want. Those SFX replacements want me say "WTF?" or just feel funny. Music is good but...just a waste for a shitty wad. But it made on 1994 so who care? :p Nah...this wad just shitty but well, not bad for a old-school maps lover. :p 2.5/5 -playerlin

The level's a typical example of a 1994 WAD, and a *bad* 1994 WAD for that matter, and the new sound effects are just as stupid. I did like the music, admittedly (not that it really fit the level), so I'll give it one star for that at least. 1/5 - ZZ

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
