Russian Arsenal REVISED

About This File

The REVISED version of RA presents 4 times better sprites, revised weapons, realistic automatic fire and several tweaks in terms of firespeed, accuracy and firepower. Check WHAT'S NEW IN REVISED section below 'What is included' section.

This mod is COMPATIBLE WITH BEAUTIFUL DOOM v. 5.0 (or newer, NOT OLDER), but it doesn't require it, Russian Arsenal can work standalone as well. As the title implies, it's just a set of Russian firearms. And they don't look too hot. But they work. But note, that weapons with low accuracy CAN NOT be used for sniping, because low accuracy applies to each and every shot, including the first one (unlike usually in Doom), except AK-74 (its single shots are accurate). Check weapdesc.txt for more information. There's also detailed description of the guns inside DECORATE lump in the wad.

It needs some new sounds for enemies such as "CHEEKI BREEKI I V DAMKE" and "MASLINU POIMAL"

The lack of widescreen support is unfortunate. Inconsistent quality -- some reloads have a smooth transition but others don’t; some animations have white outlines appearing. I'm disappointed that you left some issues which could’ve easily been fixed with some more time and effort because I think the sprites look good. Including a semiautomatic or bolt-action rifle would’ve been nice because the weapons feel samey. Including grenades and ironsights too. It's a shame to put good sprite rips to waste.

Why do you keep making things "COMPATIBLE WITH BEAUTIFUL DOOM"? It certainly isn't your magnum opus. Besides, I don't think 4 times better sprites is making them 35 frames per second. The models aren't very good looking either. Actually, it's rather ugly and you admitted it too in the readme. To me it's more like a generic weapons mod that is really only played once and then ripped apart for resources like a lego set.

Nice weapons but a poorly executed modification that leaves a lot to be desired i.e.: 1) Widescreen support. 2) Sprites (mainly the reload ones) need to have the edges cleaned up. 3) High resolution pick-up sprites that look out of place.

Pretty cool. The main thing that kept me away from the previous version was the unsightly sprite work; these ones are much better, and by extension, much more fun to use.

Whatever you say, I make my mods the way I like them :) And I'll let your brains figure out why I put "compatible with Beautiful Doom" (hint: probably because it's considered to be a great mod by many and many want to use it everywhere). If the hint is not enough, don't bother :) - Jekyll Grim Payne

Hey these are from Stalker! Sweet weapon pack, the Saiga and Toz were good choices for the shotties. The sprites look quite nice except when you do the seconday attack with the knife there is slight white outline. Also if you press reload (even when gun is full) it makes all enemies aware that you are there. Nice job.

Fun mod! pretty well done, I figured they were taken from Stalker but the transition to doom is pretty good!

Jesus, this is a good example of why things should be removed after they reach a certain rating. And i agree with pretty much everything the guy above the author (nice one, rating your own wad just to comment on someone elses rating).

I always did enjoy this weapon set, despite it's often clashing gameplay mechanics when compared to standard Doom, but it's pretty fun for a change of pace.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
