About This File

A 21st century DooM 2 episode that is big, innovative, good-looking, and of course, HARD! This wad features desert and mountain levels, and there are plenty of levels beside the sea. There are also city levels and hi-tech levels. But - every style is represented here, even if it is only 1 level! (except the Spirit-World style)

For those of you who like secrets, there are at least 3 in each level (except 25-27 and 29-32 where there are none). And you'll be pleased to know that the secret levels are VERY well hidden........

This episode combines the speed and fast-paced action that makes DooM so special with the realistic world-like adventure of newer games like Quake 2 and Half-Life.

This might be one of the worst megawads I've ever played. How it made it to 4 stars, I'll never understand.

Looks average to good, plays very well, holds up well for repeat play and alt-monsters. I did need to rebuild it to get it to run, tho.

Simplistic design, but the emphasis is on gameplay, and there is great gameplay in this one. Many levels are Plutonia-ish in more than one aspect... It's tough on UV but not overly so. Clever secrets will keep players scratching their head trying to find them. While not an all-time classic, this megaWAD stands out as an impressive effort, especially considering it was all made by one man. --4/5

The gameplay was challenging, but it's 2 ugly! 2 much of the brown + the length of puzzles vomited me. @ least my modern monsters look quite cool (fast gameplay). @ 4 my fantasy monsters, it was quite challenging, yet slower (wonder why?). I got a headache 4 some reason. ~2/5, sorry.

Eekk! A bizarre one-man megawad (an idea that rarely gives good results). I'm sorry but I can't see how it got such high grades. The levels are often overscaled, completely lacking in detail, maze-like... It reminded me of original ep3, as the levels looked crappy, but somehow, they provoke curiosity, as I kept gawking at the strange architecture. I couldn't bare on after the first few levels, so I just idcleved thorugh to see them. Worth a look, but not recommended for play.

If you're looking for prettiness, get off this page now. If you're looking for gameplay, this is your wad. A definite example of why ugliness doesn't always mean boringness.

There's some really interesting stuff here in this WAD--even though the actual architecture isn't spectacular, Fragport does a great job with its shops, hotels, and real-world-style locations. Of particular interest are map32, a cleverly designed one-of-a-kind level, and map09, an inspired remake which later spawned Super Sonic DooM. Though it may not be another AV or HR, Fragport is a unique megawad in every respect and certainly worth the download. 4/5.

I think the last level is better with Freedoom's map30 music, don't you? Anyway, this is the first wad i played using a source port, Zdoom, but looks awesome with jdoom!

One man. Barely underdetailed maps, but extremely fun to play through. Realistic map locations. A fucking story. 5 out of 5. -prdarkfox

this wad is pretty impresive, while the textures are not the best point (being a good point though, the alphabet is quite original) the gameplay of this wad is pretty active and fast paced, also the map development is neat, quite detailed accordingly to the type of location. 4/5, it's not perfect, but one of the best, even more for a loner developer.

Calling your levels "hard" because the way to beat most of them is completely counter-intuitive and in some cases impossible without cheating is just stupid.

Hmm.. whoever did this was surely out of his mind... It's obviously someone who would want to make all of this tremendous effort to build 32 titanic-giant ugly, bizarre, unplayable masses of mazes, drab halls, awful huge empty rooms and downright mazochist boredom of gameplay... For this megawad is so different and bizarre and so much effort was obviously put (despite the fact that I cannot imagine playing it), I am giving a 2. Sorry...

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
