Way too stingy with ammo (to the point of being a "fuck you" most of the time), overly reliant on Blood resources, and the siren just pisses me off because I'm always too far away from a moon room when I'm actually trying to beat the damn level. Oh yeah, and the scariness is usually just restricted to what scares 5-year-olds i.e. monsters jumping out of the closet behind you and Doom3-level dark rooms that don't have anything in them, implying that the dark by itself is supposed to be scary.

This wad should be rated higher than 3 or 3 1/2 so I gave it a 5 to cancel some of the detractors

everything is excellent except for the fact that there's no ammo and you have to use cheats. it is only a little scary and the moon base things really annoy the playing of the wad, although a perfect idea...5/5- mohaa555

5/5 even if it's a bit hard. But the atmosphere, the blood resource use, the great buildings and gothic feeling, the throwing trident fun, several of the ideas (siren run and hide even if annoying after a while, great idea I have never seen before in Doom), the gfx of the notes are soooo beatiful, the monsters however are a bit too hard and there is very few ammo or health around. Unique experience playing this one though. 5/5 - Optimus

Was a lot of fun. Although, Thamuz didn't give me too much trouble. I had a harder time with the Carnival area. Give it a 5 outta 5.

It's maps like these that really stretch the limits of Doom. This is where hard work and dedication pays off. 5/5 -r_rr

I loved it! But I'm giving only 4 & 1/2 stars. All the ambience, the ideas, the references to games like Silente hill, the story within, deserve 5 stars. Gameplay was OK but like other people has said it doesn't seem doom. It's like playing another game, and this is not bad but when I play doom I search a lil' more action (UTNT it's a good example :)). Nontheless, a incredible wad (all I expected from tormentor). -Möris Ps: Sorry for my english ^^

Very well done map. Unlike other complaints, who cares if it doesn't play like doom. you have MANY other doomy wads out there. Let there be room for different game play. The monsters were my biggest concern, not using doom monsters but doom monster like ones seemed horrid. (I.E. Soul Harvester, Vulgar,Death Incarnation,Ethereal Soul, etc.) It would have been way better if it included more original monsters IMO.

Dear god, was this really made by the same Doomer who made The Ultimate Torment and Torture? I didn't see a hint of effort or quality in this, it's quite literally Blood if Caleb was an idiot who thought it would be fun to walk around in a city filled with god mode cultists and vomit green imps (That are apparently supposed to be the Doom 3 Vulgar). Absolute trash. I'm still trying to play through it for the bile fascination, but I'm probably going to cheat like crazy. 0/5 stars.

^ Besides, it's about the only project by this author to have any atmosphere. How horrible is that?

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
