About This File

[B0S] clan's second wad. Just as in first wad (Da Will), main hero - [B0S] clan's fighter. Story so far: You woke up in a cold sweat after having a nightmare, and you see, that a message from [B0S] clan has appeared on your computer screen with an order - to get ASAP to [B0S] clan's base, located nearby. Grabbing a pistol and some ammo, you're ready to go.

Some alright maps, great music, really dodgy looking BFG replacement sprite. The thing is, you play MAP02 and MAP13 (as the shining examples of all thats wrong with this mapset) and you can't help but never want to play this again. I think I'll be skipping [BOS] clan wads in the future as I really didn't enjoy most of this. 2* -Phobus

I enjoyed a lot of the maps but found some of them to be pretty lame. I would've preferred a city infested with demons not an almost empty one. The new weapons were a bit poor and harder to aim. Still I think it does have some good maps. 4/5 dwrTag

I enjoyed most of it--always been a fan of Wraith's and Dragon Hunter's maps, and the set has a very strong atmosphere, which is really its only uniform characteristic. Gameplay styles are drastically different, with map 02 belonging in the adventure/exploratio n genre, map 07 being demi-slaughter, Azamael's being of the "miserly with the ammo" type (at least on UV), etc. If you try to play it all at once the contrast can be jarring, but in small doses it's a memorable set. --TDotW

no automap on MAP02 killed all my enthusiasm for this wad :(

^It just gets off to a slow start play-wise. Try Map03 and beyond.

Some levels are decent but look rather shitty, others are good, but I was forced to edit the WAD to remove worthless garbage, especially the weapon sprites and new sounds. Gameplay varied, but could have been better. Too much emphasis on "ambience" (hence the removable shit content) and too little on progression though the levels.

This started out interesting and atmospheric, especially with the moody music used, but after Map02 (good-looking but huge and headache-inducing), I was so frustrated that I couldn't get myself to press on. I'm not going to give the WAD a rating based on just two maps, but I can't say I enjoyed it a lot. If you like DOOM because it's a fast-paced action game and want more of that, you won't, either. - ZZ

Brillant mapset. Levels have an awesome design. Music is well chosen. Map 05 is a great map07-TNT redesign. Map 02 is beautiful, but needs a lot of monsters. Authors should update to 1.2 version with more monsters in map 02 and a better gameplay to be a masterpiece. Trolls have worked hard with this awesome wad. 4.5/5.

I'm surprised no one has bitched about the (I'm assuming) mandatory Arch-Vile jump needed to progress through map 07 once you hit the four switches in the center of the room. That, the weapon GFX I had to remove with SLADE 3, and the disabled automap in map 02 bump this down to three stars for me. I'll likely play it again in the future but only if I'm bored as fuck.

Nice exploration wad. Solid "4". Check maps 2, 9, 10, 11 - cool in design, interesting in gameplay. Very good mysterious music.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
