About This File

I have done 18 levels before these. Some of them were intended to be included here but those got destroyed so I had to start all over. Wad has new music, sounds and some graphics. Also a story about it, cool idea to print it and read it as you play. Also it's wise to save at least in start of each level, since some levels have no- escape death traps and puzzles that wrongly done will get you stuck later on the level. NOTICE: play deathmatch only with medium or easy skill, and coop only with hard or nightmare skill. Otherways DM will be too boring or coop way too easy.

By basic verdict is, it's bad, but not the worst that I've seen. I kind of enjoyed its surreal quality. This is definitely ranking in the Ed Woods of doom building. So I think my biggest beef is that it's a 9 map megawad, and getting through this crap through nine levels very quickly kills the novelty. If it was just one map however, I'd laugh it off as a silly jokewad.

Not worth the download. Hopefully this guy will get better.

He won't get better, because he probably no longer makes maps. This is a very old episode, if DEU under the editors section was any hint.

Played the first two levels, and it's just stupid. Ugly layout, full of boxy green marble corridors, inescapable traps, almost pitch black areas, and generally flawed design. The author made 18 levels before this? I don't want to see them. And don't get me started on the SFX - amusing at first, but annoying after a few minutes. Don't bother with this. 0/5 - ZZ

I played up to part of map 5 and wasted enough time. Easy gameplay where occasional annoying mechanic traps can kill you, with shit sounds, music and graphics. *

I uploaded this wad and a few others to the /idgames archive, the download links were originally on the now defunct doom wad station. This wad definitely seems to be an early one, and the level design is decent at best. Its ridiculous, but worth seeing for a laugh. 2/5 -Lupinx-Kassman

I appreciate it for the old school map design, and also the sound fx. It brings wall-humping for secrets to a new dimension. :D

The people who have brains would tell you that your level design sucks. And so do the sounds. 1/5

If you can play this for more than 10 seconds, you've got balls.

Wow, I think the new sound fx is made players think are playing female doomguy. But, it gets annoying when you pick a lot of item up...oh man...and the pain sound...sound like she(?) got raped by DooM monsters...WTF? The levels are boring, maybe not that boring but...whatever, I can't think it's a 6 years work at all! 1/5 -playerlin

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
