About This File

Two levels for 'advanced' MBF compatible ports.

YOU HAVE TO USE "-COMPLEVEL 11" WITH GLBOOM-PLUS. DO NOT TRY IT WITH "-COMPLEVEL 9".

You need a MBF compatible OpenGL port with support of hi-res textures in wads, MUSINFO lump, tall patches, and music in OGG format.

Currently there are only two ports which can handle this wad correctly: GLBoom-Plus 2.5.1.2 and GZDoom SVN build rev. 1266 (http://svn.drdteam.org) or higher.

Risen3D will probably be able to handle this wad starting from the next release (2.2.13 or higher).

Command line: glboom-plus vg.wad -complevel 11.

Textures and sprites: Outlaws, NOLF2, Hexen2, Blood, Pain Killer, Realm667, Doom64, SNtex, Duke3D, American McGee's Alice, Urban Terror, DM-RealManor UT map by Angelheart.

Sky on map02 has been taken from the "The Eiger Sanction" film.

Horse sprites have been made from free 3D model by animella.

Sound: Blood, Doom3.

Music: American McGee's Alice, Johnny Cash.

Most of the borrowed textures have been reworked, many have been taken from the net & some are self made.

Kick-ass looks, dull gameplay. I couldn't even bother with finishing MAP01 after aimlessly wandering the city for 30 minutes. "STUCK"

Great visuals, subpar gameplay. I really feel like those large, gorgeous maps were wasted. Look at the size of that first map: entire opening area is there purely for decoration. and exploration of that large, beautiful cityscape offer next to no reward (like, that maps contains all of 2 secrets, one of them being something of a trap). Not to mention running from cybers while you are trying to find a door you can actually open or one you can use that key on.

This is just like Eternal to make super-high detailed wads like this. I personally loved the late 19th century feel. Takes a bit to get into the action on both levels, but game play quickly follows once you find the first switch. The new weapons are a nice touch also. 4/5 Unitzero1

Yes, this file is huge, and you don't even get 25 minutes of gameplay out of it. But I like it. Map01 has a lot of "wasted" architecture, areas with nothing it in, but it looks great and I really like the hidden switches and secrets. Map02 was great too.

I like architecture. 19th century environment looks great, but gameplay is not brillant. Some crashes in glboom-plus. Despite of this, it's funny. 4/5. I encourage you to do a version with more maps.

Sasha,I enjoyed these two maps and I like all of your work . Architecture is beautiful from start to finish , I don't even mind the vast spaces that serve no purpose but to be beautiful , it's just that I have a feeling that you should've done more maps , this is like a teaser or something . Please, make some more !!! Oh - I liked the horse ! Anyway, keep up the good work and greetings from Serbia !!! 5/5 RH

Architecture looks stunning @ 2560x1440 and runs smoothly @ HD6950, so 5/5. Sadly gameplay is almost not there, so 1/5. Overall: a really disappointing 3/3. BTW no problems with prboom-plus-2.5.1.3

"Aw, it's stuck." I certainly heard that a lot. My guy either has trouble gettig his zipper down or there are like, 3 actual doors in the first level. When the baddies do show up it's basically flee and fight in a giant playground. Not as good as Eternal's other levels. Feels like a throw-away wad to show off a few new features. 3/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
