Not liking this mod has nothing to do with being a purist... it simply fails in mostly every aspect, that's all!

Not amazing as some of ReX's other works but still pretty good re-imagining of E1.

This wad is far from perfect, but has some good ideas. I enjoyed playing most of it. 4/5

It's got flaws but come on it isn't zero-star material. That's just silly. Worth two stars on effort alone, at the bare minimum.

The maps don't flow well, GZDoom features are used mostly superfluously, and the architecture is pretty horrid which leads to boring gameplay. Rex has done much better. 1/5

What is with all the negative reviews? It's just absurd. I'm rating it 5/5 even though I wanted to give it 4 simply because people are being incredibly stupid with their reviews, and someone needs to balance it out. There's no reason to hate this thing as much as some of the idiots on here do.

Surprisingly good hub. Some atmospheric music could have helped (something like PSX Doom soundtrack would fit this wad quite well), architecture and visuals needed more work - this one can sometimes look really simplistic for a wad heavy on source port features. Other than that I think this is a fine hub, sufficiently well crafted and enjoyable if approached with right expectations.

Pretty bad, actually. I like the connected levels effect but in all honesty I'd rather play Blake Stone. Most of the levels are remixes of already existing E1 levels, and the only parts that play well are those based on E1 while the others suck. The problem is, I'd rather play E1. 1/5

With the exception of part of e1m1, this is nearly an exact copy-and-paste of ReX's 2004 wad "Phobos Revisited" with none of the errors corrected and with the additions of more ugly-looking out-of-place detail, inconsistently-imple mented brightmap effects, frustratingly overpowered monster edits, Voodoo2-quality outdoor fog, and .

This project seems to suffer from the same disease Paranoia suffered: most of the time you wander in silence with no background music and very scarce ambience. Except this time, when you finally hear some music, you want to turn if off in most cases. I like hubs though.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
