About This File

A 17-map cooperative single player wad. Also might be suitable for two players. It contains the first two episodes, an interlude, and a final set of maps. All included maps are completed as-is, and I have no intention of completing all 32 maps at any time.

"fun artistic abstraction of doom" what is this bullshit you're talking about? Anyway, this is a decent map pack with oldschool-themed maps and some surprises thrown in. it's nothing special but I'd definitely like to see more from this author, perhaps even a finished version of this. 3/5

I found Map01-Map12 really decent, but later levels just meh, except Map29, but due I feel boring after completed Map20,21 and 28 so I found Map29 just a little boring, but the layout just neat. Map30 just...what...the... hell......ok maybe I needed to find someone play with me with those boring maps I guess. :P 3.5/5

A surprisingly great- albeit incomplete- experience. Simple and minimilistic, the first act could be mistaken for a mappers first attempts. To me, it felt like a fun artistic abstraction of doom. Then the psychedelic shit hits the fan as you roll on metaphysical high gear through the second act. I would encourage the author to post a thread, work out the bugs, and finish this! 4/5 -FoH

It has some bugs. Such as a door that can only be opened once and will have to be clipped through if you don't go through it. actually a lot of the doors become a hassle due to closing on u, and a few of the maps are a bit linear. And the maps are in an order that cannot be played through. but mostly it is fun to play. It seems rushed near the end but the maps that are here are pretty good, but map28 is extremely cheap

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
