I actually really liked this wad.  The atmosphere was great and so was the texturing.  I think the maps had just the right amount of detail too.  The new monsters were refreshing and the new look on existing ones and the new missile effects were pulled off really well and made this wad even better imo.  I didn't try this on zdoom but on gzdoom it felt like just the right kind of darkness and the texturing helps make it look darker.

Very stylish, atmospheric, creative and fresh levels, I've never seen something like this before. But they're also rather buggy (with HUD covering part of the automap, some monsters stuck, music not playing properly and health regeneraction not working correctly). So it requires further testing and tweaking and not a revelation of century in terms of gameplay but as of now it's worth looking at. 4/5 - Demonologist

The Hell of Void. I mean ultimate emptiness of this wad will bore you to tears and that's what I call the real Hell.

Wow, what the hell, I love this atmospheric and feels but too dark and I can't see some shit...battles are good but overpowered mini-bosses/final boss just let me hate the author...and the regain health just too slow and I rather just use "resurrect" or I just feel boring as dead. :p Well, this is really hard but I have fun, that's what's matter! 4/5

On Zdoom, it's too dark and I can't really run GZdoom yet.

Brutally hard - too hard in places - but very atmospheric and compelling anyway. If the health regen was just a little faster, I don't think I would have had anywhere near as much trouble.

No health, and for some reason, I wasn't healing. Got boring have to dodge countless monsters without health, but overall, I liked it.

Very dark and atmospheric, so dark in fact, I almost gave up on it. The teleporting caco was borderline disturbing and made me nearly throw my cordless mouse across the room! And the dark cloud monster - fuck me :-O Loved it! Can't wait for more :-) 5/5

A foreboding ambiance and unique sound track alone make this a must play wad despite its many game play flaws. Projectiles are often times hard to dodge. Its difficult to tell when your taking damage. Ammo and weapon balance is just bad across the whole mapset. I barely got a glimpse of some of the unique enemies before I massacred them like nothing. Map 02's music gets stuck on one note forever. Monster encounters arn't anything special. Still, it's pretty! 3/5 -FoH

Attractive to look at, but dull and boring to play.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
