About This File

A reinterpretation or remake of Doom's original E2M3, heavily inspired by KDiZD. The whole map has been enlarged, restructured, new areas have been added, old ones enhanced and the whole thing has been turned into something more real and creepy. Expect something totally different in a place that you already know to a very good extend.

Ok map. Very visually impressive. The high res sky with Mars and space in the background was beautiful. However, as others have said, the difficulty was ridiculous and ended up making the map not really that enjoyable. Lots of custom monsters in the map. Some of them like the zombies are ridiculously overpowered. I don't mind a few custom beasties, but when there's so many of them, the map stops feeling like a Doom map.

He put my name in with the testers? :-) If I'm perfectly honest, I couldn't test it due to me not owning Doom 1, but thanks anyway dude. - Obsidian

this was more fun the second time around. after you beat the level, you can play it again, but the level is changed! there are more monsters and more AMMO! the doors require different keys, etc. i like the atmosphere, but i can't give it more than 3 stars because the first part was too unfair. worth playing for the "second quest!"

an OK detailed map, nothing special. beginning is damned hard until you get better weapons, then you will find enough health to survive. and yes, new monsters such as the zombies are so damn overpowered. since i still have shareware version of doom, i had to try this with FreeDoom. it looked weird to see like a mishmash of things thrown together. i give this 3 stars for effort. maybe i would enjoyed more if i had full doom 1 instead of shareware version.

Wow! Sorry, but I can only score 5/5. This deserves so much more. 5/5

3 stars, as effort has clearly been put into the look of the level (even if too dark due to OpenGL, meh). Sadly the gameplay suffers a lot from a relative lack of ammo, overpowered zombie monsters which have way too much health for their size (were these enemies even tested with balance in mind?), and situations which tend to slow the player down rather than provide interesting fights. Granted, this is a step forward from KDiZD in which neither looks nor gameplay were good. Hopefully TSoZD will be better-

Nice details, but boring layout and tunnel-fights against ridiculously overpowered Zombies and a bunch of completely useless random custom monsters. What's up with those black clouds getting stuck everywhere? Those snot-spitting-ceilin g-things are also mostly used in situation where they can't even hit you, lol. Not my cup of tea! 1 star for the details. 1/5

Had a great time playing this. The new monsters were used well, the detail was good, and the level layout was fun and engaging. Voting 5 stars before the anti-Tormentor people come in and spam 0-star votes.

Impressive visuals but gameplay is just... no... no, no, no, NO. This is not Doom anymore and more importantly this is in no way fun. Simply put this is pain in *** to play. I'm sorry, so sorry. If this is any indication Shores of ZDoom will, when (if?) it finally get released, manage to be way more controversial than KDiZD.

meh it's okay, i liked the idea of playing the map with different things happening, that was rather clever imo. 3/5

The new music is fantastic and visually the map is amazing. There only seems to be one difficulty level and it's "Fuck you, player". You'll get drilled by railguns, exploded by rockets and the beefed up shotgunners will ruin your day. Way, way overpowered monsters; now we all know how it feels to be an Imp facing the Space Marine.

Awful layout consisting almost entirely of flat corridors, stupidly cramped rooms, and lots of backtracking to find switches and key doors that appear to have been dotted around at complete random. Extremely unforgiving ammo balance, featuring superpowered monsters and barely anything to shoot at them with. The visuals are decent for a Tormentor map. This level, like many of his other releases, had the potential to be worth downloading but completely squandered it. Don't bother.

Interesting map. Amount of work: 4/5. Ambient: 4.5/5. New monsters: always +1 - however: some are unbalancedly strong, so 4/5. Playability: hmm... Ok, 3.5/5. Overall: 4/5. Definitely needs more balance & gameplay, then 5/5. Note: gzdoom 1.6.0 can be found @ http://www.osnanet.d e/c.oelckers/gzdoom/ download/gzdoom-bin- 1-6-00.zip

I liked it, but to play it, I had to used a friend's more modern computer, as it lags mine to death. Fun, detailed, but I hope TSoZD levels aren't that detailed, and therefore lag that much. Just a pointer. Still good. 4/5 -Ace of Spades

Clever ideas, but the regular Doom strategies won't work too well.

I have nothing against realm667 monsters. Some of them are fun to look and shoot at. Unfortunately here it seems that as many types of monsters as possible were crammed into the map and placed as randomly as possible. 2/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
