About This File

Here's a 6-map episode for Doom 2. It's called "A Taste for Blood". These maps, ranging from small to large, hopefully combines good detail and atmosphere with, at times, strong difficulty. All maps are pistol-start-friendly and intended for. :)

A decent mapset which is worth an evening or two of your time. Very challenging in places, with an occasional inclination in the direction of slaughterish gameplay. Map 4 features a lethal outdoor urban setting, in which you would be well advised to get into one of the buildings and secure it as quickly as possible. Map 5 has the memorable Cyberdemon plus Archviles encounter in narrow corridors, plus the yellow key fight which other reviews have referred to. Map 6 feels a bit half-hearted and anticlimactic, but it was a pleasant change to get 100% kills, items and secrets (though I'm not sure there actually were any of the latter).

Played on UV, GLBoom-plus, continuous.

^I agree. You should download this and not let it fly under the radar.

Some of the best wads in existence are less than 10 levels long (Hell Ground is a great example of this). That having been said, I feel like this wad doesn't vary its theme vary much, plus no hellish-themes at all, but it is well done for what it is. Also, I feel that original doom music bothers me when I hear it these days... 3/5

A fun mini-comp of well designed maps that just falls short of greatness by lacking a bit of balance in it's game play. Still a recommended playthrough though. 4/5. -TRRobin.

Architecture is nice, and so is the gameplay. There are some annoying enemy placements which make some moments too difficult. 3/5 - Zalewa

I played through this piece in less than an hour and I will never play it again. It isn't bad at all, but there isn't any moment to remember. It is just mediocre mapset with unchallenging ending. 3/5 - Damned

i agree that waverider is totally one of the under-the-radar quality mappers. go play this, the gameplay's really good and the visuals feel nicely oldschoolish while surprising you with detail a bunch of times. -dew

A surprising, somewhat hidden gem so far this year. The gameplay is stronger than it has any right to be, considering that some of the layouts are more concept-driven than anything else. Map04 is best map here, but Map05's run-past-cybie-run-i nto-HOLY-SHIT-ARCH-V ILES moment may be the one that sticks out most. Certainly worth a download. 4/5 -Snakes

Space! I can move! Thank you for providing me with large, maneuverable play areas which I can glide my happy feet across without being disoriented by bumpy (i.e. ugly) floor details. Please continue making maps! I believe that your open plan style (much akin to my own) is one that is lost among many other mappers, and I would be heartbroken not to see it flourish into something truly excellent. 4/5

This is one of those uploads that demonstrate why limiting the latest files to 10 can cause people to miss a gem.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
