Great horror single level pwad. the new monsters are excellent, the tweaks you made to the old monsters work very well with the level. Crouching and jumping are required in this map so make sure you have those controls mapped or use a source port that supports it otherwise 1/3 into the maps going to be impossible. The overall atmosphere of the game is nice and very suspenseful. my hands were shaking at certain parts but, in a good way. Nice balance of jump scares and atmospheric induced gloom and fear. Theres not much replay value but with single level PWADS there usually never is. I would have liked to see more enemies especially in hell section. Theres plenty of them but there's either a big sprawling section of hell with only a few and then a clump of them in another section. Thats the only critique I have. I do recommend this WAD

given that this is the same author who created Beyond Reality, you can expect some fucked up shit to show up in this one. However, at least this one sticks to something, a horror theme, although in many places its made silly by the numerous faces of the author. regardless, the custom enemies are pretty scary at times, fast melee spiders along with blood-throwing demons. it's a little less challenging than I imagined, but maybe it's because I took it really slowly. jumping AND crouching are required, and its technically a six-key map in the sense. no actual boss though, but the map is pretty big and adventurous. not a fan of having to jump in places at all. it's worth a look.

The map looks great, but seeing multiple pictures of Jack making silly faces plastered everywhere in certain parts of the map can really kill the horror vibe.

Nice horror theme of level, I got scary on most of parts of level and first time see those shitty monsters...but the Hell part(after the door opened by all 6 keys) just boring, and that big nasty fall-to-death pit, it sucks. And yes, I don't want play it second time. :\ 3.5/5

This wad brings a new kind of scary to the table, but in a good way. Some of the custom enemies have pretty neat effects and i like the rising souls effect you made. Definitely a nice surprise, i suggest everyone should give it a spin.

Definitely interesting, probably would have gotten more attention if doomguy 2000 didn't upload his 3 wads, this really deserves more attention. 5/5

Ugh, too hard! Those custom monsters are brutal! Give me those boring stock DOOM monsters that fire mushihimesama-speed projectiles that only a braindead retard couldn't dodge!

Most original Halloween-themed idea I've ever seen, it has a little spice of a Jokewad though, but was indeed a great mod. Great level design as well. 5/5

Certainly lives up to its name. Starts out VERY spooky, survival horror-ish, but later on gets much more action-oriented, which I thought took away from its atmosphere. The latter half especially is just a partial TC with custom (overpowered, naturally) monsters and textures and lots of colored lighting. Contains a maze, BTW (urgh), and the "shaking ground" effect made me dizzy very quickly. Solid WAD, but I wish it were more like the start. 3.5/5 - ZZ

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
