Realm Of Demonology

About This File

A collection of story-driven relatively short maps based on some rather old ideas of mine which I've finally managed to realise in more or less adequate way. These maps are a bit harsh, but hopefully still provide some not-so-common visuals and deep atmosphere, as well as fast-paced and at times rather furious - but in general moderately difficult - gameplay. Technically there are 7 maps with 6 playable and 1 tiny outro map to prevent player from moving further into Doom 2 maps.

IMPORTANT - cc4-tex.wad is required to play.

There's also some .OGG music tracks so port with .OGG support is recommended - though not necessary - to play this .wad the way it's intended to be played.

Honestly, the current rating for this WAD feels pretty unfair, but this what you get when people who do not appreciate the genre volunteer to judge it.

Realm Of Demonology may not be as visually impressive as Sunlust or as tightly balanced as Rush, but it is more than competent in what it does. And with as thematically interesting maps as unholy cathedral of MAP03: Irreligious, or satanic temple of MAP05: Darkness In Paradise, or even the whole sheer volume of slaughter as in the final map of this episode it can surely hold your attention.

First 3 maps still have fun for me, but sadly the rest just not. Boring, reiterative and nothing too special, at least it should be fun for slaughter-map lovers. 2.5/5 -playerlin

collection of nice slaughter maps, some of them quite non-linear. all of the maps are somewhat dark though.

I first tried this wad with Brutal Doom and while it would have been a fun, albeit monotonous, adventure, I quickly realized the mod I really should be playing with this, and subsequently started over with Russian Overkill. This is a collection of slaughter-maps. I must say, I don't get the ending/final level, are you supposed to end up in a very small cage with nothing to do? Either way, the other 6 maps are elegant, great looking and, for a collection of slaughter-maps, VERY WELL DONE! 5/5 Very Impressed!

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
