About This File

"Bossed" is a small wad that contains 5 maps for Doom 2 using lots of ACS scripts, so it's designed only for ZDoom. In each map there's a boss encounter at the end. New monsters are included from Realm667 Beastiary and most of Skulltag's monsters.

The Story You (Doomguy) have gone through many hellish invasions without having cruel problems. You are a legend. You're one of a kind. This is what attracted hellish species from another dimensions.

A group of 5 monsters who call themselves "The Elite 5" wanted to challenge you, so they started to invade the earth just as every time hell did in the past. However, it is mentioned that they are not like any monsters you've faced them before.

The maps are hard after the beginnings and gameplay could take more than 1 hour.

A fairly enjoyable episode made for ZDoom. Each level has an end boss. All boss battles are well designed, with frequent respawns to keep you out distracted. The general gameplay is carefully scripted for the most part.

WARNING: level 2 has an elevator activated by all three keys. You must resist the urge to run back as you press the switch, because the elevator will go down and won't be callable back from outside!

Good concept, make sure future levels are balanced with enough health and ammo.

Amount of work: 4/5. Architecture: 3/5, not bad but nothing special. Decoration: 3/3. Gameplay: jyck, 1.5/5... Repetitive monster pop-ups of the kind we've seen a zillion times before, a boss which needs about 100 rockets, a lot of jumping which is nearly impossible, and no infighting. Overall gameplay is very repetitive, and imho mostly dull. Thanks for the efford of making this mapset, but I don't think I'll play it a second time. So overall 3/5.

Quite nice, although the later boss monsters were nigh impossible. Didn't like the jumping puzzles so much, but level design was good, and overall, it sure was fun. 4/5 - ZZ

"Bossed" can be 'very' difficult on UV! Nice use of scripting and the level design is somewhat nostalgic of classic DooM and Quake. I have only 2 complaints. Ammo is scarce during later levels and knowing where to go can be frustrating. All in all a very decent addition to the archives. 3.5/5 -UnitZero1

One thing that struck me was that boss 5 - ??? is way, way easier than boss 4. i did not find ammo to be scarce except in map 2 boss fight and the very beginning of map 4. 4 stars.

Nice scripting and cool map-layout! But some scripts can cause errors. In map01 for example, when you enter the blue tech-elevator with spawning imps, and exit it immediately, the level cannot be finished. Some "Line_SetBlocking"-s cripts could be useful here and there. And yes, the jumping sequences are senseless, the otherwise fun gameplay is ruined by this. Sorry, I can only give 3/5 but I hope, you will make some more better maps in the future :-) -unidenti7ied

How come the first boss is so hard, then in map 2 there are lots of the same creatures who die in one or two hits? This is a speciality wad to be sure which takes advantage of some cool ZDoom features and some of the more exciting monsters from the Bestiary, who fit in nicely. Job done, now go and get your arse kicked by the dreaded... well, you'll definitely know him when you see him ;) - MajorRawne

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
