Short level, it's not bad level honestly but... Archvile in the end without powerful weapons, really? Cramped rooms even make this worse(I don't think it have to do with texture limitation), sadly that both ruined the whole map...please considering give player a SSG/RL/PG if you designed such cramped rooms with archvile. 3/5

From the description I can understand that Obdisian had limited himself to around 45 textures, but nowhere can I infer his decision to confine himself into a claustrophobic corner of mapping space. Though the lone wooden fortress of a map sits over a sea wooden columns, the playable area itself is miniscule, and offers little space for manuever. Many rooms are symmetrical, but the ammo is just right, down to the last bullet if you're lucky. Which I wasn't. Archvile with no cover at the end wasn't fun. 3/5

Didn't like the cramped feeling of the map. Otherwise, fine usage of wooden textures.

I was looking for a map with heavy use of wood textures, and this is what I got. It's quite narrow and fights are tight. There are only three weapons: shotgun, chaingun, and chainsaw. Thank Obsidian for the chainsaw, I killed one third or maybe even one half of monsters with it. Perhaps in unfound secret there's something stronger. I was short with ammo so I had to rain check on cacodemons and run away from an archvile. I liked the woodenness, but gameplay could be better.

Small map. Not too bad ambiance, but hopelessly ADHD-style gameplay. As that is imo the most important aspect of a level: 1/5. Pity of the effort.

Pretty good map and the all wood theme is an interesting looking concept. The difficulty level is HIGH and I could not complete the map without cheating. The ending is simple but classic :P

A bit hard. Not enough ammo, too cramped. With saves/loads I made it.

Fun if you're up to the challenge. This little map consists of 7 smallish okay looking rooms. Small rooms filled with monsters and objects makes you an easy target. And this ruins the map for me.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
