A little confusing to find out where should I go, new monsters are just a little annoying but still OK enough to me, it's nice put good use on them(new monsters), not just throw into players and kicked their asses. The looking on each levels are good, the atmosphere give me nice Hell feel, nice.

I have some fun, but sometimes I feel health items can be more on later levels because annoying imps just keep throw fireballs to me/forgotten souls(the new Lost Soul-sytle monster which acting so fast) rushing to me like over-excited doggy and I can't easily see them sometimes, a little unfair to me...and I have only shotgun until Map03?! Nah...the pistol should be replaced with something better I guess...chainsaw on Map02 does help but no much, at least the author didn't put Barons in Map01 and 02(maybe the early part of Map03 before found other weapons) or I'll be pissed off. :P

Overall, it's a nice mini episode WAD. 4/5

While it's frustrating at times, running around trying to figure out what the latest mystery switch (and there are a lot of them) did, the levels are small enough that you won't be running around for too long. Also good, restrained use of Archies and 667 monsters (as LordK already pointed out). Also nice how the WAD ends on the Doom 2 ending screen, rather than dumping you onto MAP06 after you're done - gives a sense of accomplishment.

Definitely a keeper. A bit cramped, but v. challenging and excellent use of Doom's own tropes and setting.

I can't pinpoint what exactly it is about this mapset, but it keeps you on your toes with a great combination of the old and the new in a rather interesting way

Architecture: varies a lot but often a bit cramped while manouvring, and some open areas are imo a bit too large - 3.5/5. Athmosphere/suspense : 4/5. Playability @ UV: 3.5/5, could be harder. Addition of new, good playable monsters: always +1. Overall: 4/5, surely worth a play.

Surprisingly good stuff. It's a modern take on classic Dooming, but the ZDoomisms and Realm 667 monsters are used with more restraint and taste than in e.g. KDiZD. 4/5

A pretty decent WAD. Gameplay is pretty fun and challenging. The new monsters are good for a bit of variety but not necessarely used very well. You can break map04 and map05 by walking across ledges to barred pathways. Pretty short. It's pretty average, not very good nor very bad.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
