Just like the T/nC reviewer said, this map is a "Where the f*** should I go" type of map...also ammo is scarce if you go wrong way by going secret areas until you get more...(on UV, when you want to kill the cyberdemon in the room with Plasma Gun and invulnerability sphere; or maybe because my play-style, I'm not sure...)

But once you know where you should go then it's piece of cake, still it's confusing sometimes, and some secrets may teleported you to new area that make you even more confusing. It's just an OK map, with some elaborate level progress and traps, and multiple way to progress for reaching the end of level. However I think some design flaws may ruined that, it still enjoyable if you know how to progress the level(at least not the first run or without check the editor) but if you hate confusing layout kind of levels then this isn't for you.  3/5

Found couple of bugs...

1. The secret area near the starting area(Sector #463) is inescapable if you let the door(Sector #464) shuts, because linedef #2121 has no special, unlike the other side one (linedef #2126, has DR Door special) so you can't open the door and escape, stuck in the secret area unless you cheat.

2. The door(s) on Sector #209 is PITA since you have open multiple pillars to go through the door(s), and these pillars' trigger line just so small so you would miss that, I know the mapper want to made a "cell door" like of door but this is not fun to open that. I think it's more like design flaw then bug...

Just played through some of it, map has 120 monsters and 9 secrets, and if it was a Terrywad I guess I didn't get far enough. There's a cyberdemon not too deep into the level standing in front of an invulnerability sphere so that's fun. It's a good level for seasoned doom vets. Level design looks like it could've been from '97ish. Great textfile, by the way. -Bukkake Windmill

A 1990s looking WAD. It provides some challenge, so your gaming experience may vary. There's also an interesting obstacle where you need to hurry up with switch hunting. Nevertheless, I didn't like this WAD.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
