About This File

Trailer: youtu.be/khGBUUnrlgE

In early 2013, I watched a video of an obscure FPS game called "Exploding Lips", a game that pretty much made no sense and pretty much sucked. Yet for some reason I liked it anyways, so I decided to make something inspired by the game.

Mayhem Mansion, you explore a haunted mansion full of giant disembodied lips, TV with legs, angry books, and other things trying to kill you for no reason whatsoever, but don't worry because you have your trusty weaponry and magic!

The layout and path is similar to Exploding Lips, but with less backtracking and less "How the fuck was I suppose to figure that out?"-ness.

ENJOY.

Fantastic. For some reason when I first got into modding I thought Jack101 was kind of...I dunno. But after Beyond Reality, Unhinged, and now this (I love Exploding Lips and the story behind it is utterly insane) really proves he is a darn good modder. 5 out of 5 - Bukkake Windmill. I wish more "joke wads" could be as entertaining as this one was.

Enjoyed every moment of this one. Won't be everyone's cup of tea, obviously, but do give it a go if you enjoy some high quality weirdness in your Doom and don't mind puzzley gameplay.

by far the weirdest wad I've ever played, wasnt my cup of tea, but some parts were pretty hilarious. 4/5 for amount of talent and time that went into this.

It's hard for me to criticize this since most of bad stuff (ugly badly animated sprites, poor visuals, irritating gameplay...) is by all accounts faithful to original Exploding Lips and Jack101 already proved that he is really talented mapper. But... this just isn't at all fun to play or nice to look at. I guess it could be kind of funny, in that weird 70's-80's stoner movie kind of way...

There is certainly nothing else like this on these archives. Extremely flawed, often frustrating, often makes absolutely no sense. And, in case of this particular TC, that is not a bad thing.

See, Terry Tards? It is possible to make a funny and enjoyable mod that doesn't involve loud noised and rape implications. If only you poor fucks were smart enough to realize that...

This is really cool, but it could be so much more bizarre. Embrace the lips, Jack. You know you want to. Don't dream it - be it.

Barf. This is an acid trip straight out of a third-world casino circa 1975. The walking TVs and reskinned Pinkies are, I am compelled to report, totally Elvis. Don't even get me started on the Rocky Horror Picture Show vibe caused by the damn lips and bizarro-world helicopters. There's also the HUD being a throwback to the computer games of the 1980s, and not in a good way. I mean, I'd rather have a Terry rapefest than this, and that's saying something.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
