About This File

A compilation of old vanilla maps by myself, most of them unreleased for the archives. I made many changes and fixes, but I tried to keep the classic feeling, although some are heavily modified. All maps are playable from pistol start, but ammo may be tight sometimes. You'll need a limit-removing sopurce-port. Maps were tested with Zdoom and PrBoom. Vavoom ruins especial effects made with game bugs. But you should NOT jump or crouch in this levels.

Nice 10-minutes cubic open-air techbase level. Good use of new textures, good ambiance. Gameplay @ UV is a bit disappointing: many snipers, and the player gets faced with a bunch of cacos, then with revenants, then some mancubusses, then two PEs, then two AVs, then a large group of imps, etc. Which makes gameplay quite sterile, and makes the map overall just not good enough for PDG.

Played only @ UV. Wad-style: typical 1995. Author shows how to use DoomBuilder (except for aligning textures). Having said this, I'm not very positive. The look-and-feel of the maps was ok in 1995, but not 19 years later for a 12-maps wad. Maps look rather primitive, and imho textures often just don't match. Gameplay is very simple, and monster placement is more often than not horrible: groups of imps, then groups of revenants, then a group of arch-viles... Yawn. IOW: no fun. 2/5 + 1 for the efford = 3/5.

I really like Aluqah's mapping. Opened map full of action and very well designed - he really doesn't need to overdetail things to make great architecture and keep his original style. The gameplay is well ballanced from the beginning to end, maybe just a pity that the fights weren't harder overall. Well deserved 4 stars from me :-) Gusta

This WAD was not too bad and I thought it was a nice challenge.

Bitchen slaughter map providing some far out narly action that I could ride out no sweat. Most waves were radical and not over the top Scythe like. Visual were decent, but shamelessly blocky. 3/5 -FoH

A floating-in-space map in a distinct style that features good use of open space to make the level seem large, though the path is mostly small and linear. Springs a couple of difficult traps on you, and you have to be careful not to fall off the edge. Good use of construction to make jumping useless, though changing the medkit to a red sphere was pointless and confusing. 3/5

Get my ass kicked and blow away by many archviles near the final section, which is unfair for me, even I have BFG9000 and full cell ammo...hard but acceptable, I think it could be fine if there are more health or secrets with more health items... 4/5

I like it, cool maps and cool music choices. (Doesn't run in DOS, btw.)

I liked this one. It is apparently made to resemble a structure floating in outer space, and despite having no keys, it is of reasonably good length. It is also a challenge, but it's fair; in fact, on HMP I used every last bullet I had to complete the map but practically never had to use the fist. Worth a go, you'll probably enjoy it. 4/5

Abstract and convoluted design resulting in player confusion, ugly like hell textures, tedious gameplay with monsters stacks and no BFG provided where it should be. This is a WAD that almost has all the components necessary to create a good map set, but it's twisted in a way that you get the complete opposite.

Pretty darn good, some rather odd details, definitely not your run of the mill visual style of a modern wad. Definitely not bad, sometimes it is pretty cute. And you have to enjoy the sky.

Pretty nice WAD; lots of action in a solid techbase-ish level featuring Aluqah's trademark design. Quite hard, but if that doesn't faze you, try it. 4/5 - ZZ

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
