About This File

This was the longest I ever worked on anything ever, other than that one time I built a watergun to shoot my sister with when I was six. Hmph. Well, the first 2 levels were made to make fun of 90s wads, which explains the 90s sounds and HUD. Map03 i decided to step up the detailing. Map03, Map04, and the beginning of Map05 were inspired by UACMC (UAC Mutation Complex), the rest was inspired by KDIZD. Map07 was the longest I worked on any map ever, mostly due to scripting complications. By the way *********** DON'T PLAY ON (G)ZDOOM, PLAY ON SKULLTAG *********** so play it now! NOW1!!!111

Well. That was fantastic. I'm being honest, that was probably one of the best WADs I've played through in quite a while. I haven't played DooM in a while, but that WAD is making me want to come back for more.

I don't know guys. It isn't a terrywad, its pretty fun, and it seems like a lot of time was put in to it. 5 stars!

2 much on details. When I load, my comp loads slow. Maps are good though, just that I didn't finish it in time. ~3/5

The name "MatthewDoomer" doesn't automatically indicate a terrywad, people. Next time actually try playing the wad, you'll be glad you did. Particularly this one. 5/5

The maps are not too bad, but they could have been better. I recognize the smooth weapon sprites, they were from a skulltag mod (from 2011 or 2012[?]). The chainsaw is missing... When playing this wad in Zandronum, I noticed a lot of missing textures.

This mod goes together quite nicely. I like how the maps flow into eachother. However, the difficulty did leave a few things to be desired, like more armor, health, and maybe ammo. Ah well, that adds onto the difficulty. Keep up the good work. ~Hank

It's difficult to score this as it's apparent that some effort and work was put into it. Layout of the levels is a huge problem here, and maps are basically series of straightforward rooms connected with corridors. Some backtracking is involved and all of this this basically results in an uninteresting gameplay. Improve your layouting and you'll be making great WADs in no time.

Why the hell would someone call this "junk"? They're fun little Skulltag maps (meaning you need the texture and sprite resources) that aren't too shabby at all. That pistol and shotgun sound effects are really, REALLY annoying, but overall I reccomend this to someone looking for a fun little blast. (Played through map03)

Not bad. Miles better than your other "serious" WADs.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
