About This File

Warning: This map is big! There's 400+ monsters on Ultra Violence. And the layout is non-linear. It'll probably take you an hour to complete unless you are really good. So, if you're not a fan of that combination, then... well, just don't complain about it I guess. It's all intentional :)

This level is my interpretation of an action filled and slightly different episode 2 level. I tried to stay true to the style of eps. 2, but cranked it up a bit. It's like my "Rip it, Tear it, Smash it!", only on drugs! As I said, there's a ton of monsters, a crazy cool metal track and enough variety in the gameplay to make you dizzy! I loved making this level and I feel it's the best one I've made in a loooong time. It's on a personal top three of my own work.

It has been tested in a variety of sourceports and we've tried to optimize it to be compatible with as many as possible. I don't know what else to say, really. Just play it. I'm sure most of you will enjoy it :)

Great Doom 1 single map wad, for us strange Doom 1 people.

Complex, non-liean design, entertaining ambushes sprinkled around keeping you on your toes, with balanced ammo, and not much health lying around.

This is a very long map, however, (30-50 mins), and it can get a bit boring after a while, especially when it comes to the - otherwise neat, very heavy metal-ish - music.

Do give it a try.

A great level. Difficulty is good, weapon and monster placement also good. Nothing mind-blowingly different but who cares really when it's this fun to play? 4 stars. -TRRobin.

Fun map. I liked it. It's like E3M3 but on steroids.

Chris Hansen returns with yet another awesome classic DOOM map, this time opting for a more non-linear approach with a bit more difficulty than his usual offerings. The level manages to keep you on your toes most of the time, with many good traps and surprises along with general good gameplay. Nice architecture and killer music put the icing on the cake. Great wad, 5/5!

A fairly fine Doom 1 level, although the layout is a bit confusing at times.

25 minutes taking my time, 50% of my damage came from stupid acid pits without given Suit, tried to take down the last monsters but was too long and think I didn't have enough ammo, many of the traps are just spending time camping and shooting straight

You know a WAD is good when someone who did not pass it but gave it 5 stars. Also, crank that music volume up, because the MIDI is glorious.

Played @ UV. Cons: some texture misalignments, often cramped, UV might be more intense, adhd music. Pro: compact but very good map layout, consistent and effective texture use, very well balanced ammo placement (berserk use), mostly very well monster placement (no dumb monster popups) - and +1 for not ending with the almost inevitable cybie, gave 40 minutes of fun. Overall: not legendary, but 4+1 = 5/5.

Well, not legendary but I definitely had fun. Kinda mazey and some fights are skippable plus some monsters are placed that way they can make you slightly mad. But hey, it's totally worth your time!

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
