About This File

As the successor to the ZDCMP1, the second take follows the same rules: Various mappers and modders are working on fixed dates/slots on the map and continueing where the prior person has stopped. Expect a high quality Doom experience with countless surprises and numerous things that push ZDoom to its limits.

I would consider this map to be Tormentor's magnum opus.

The scale and detail in this map is unprecedented. The custom weapon's are all have their place and feel great to use, I found myself using the rifle the take out faraway target's well into the endgame and turning a pack of imp's into vapor with a well placed grenade is supremely satisfying.

I also appreciate how the flamethrower doesn't deal self-damage, that's a level of self restraint that you don't see very often in other Modder's work.

My personal favourite new weapon would have to be the Soulrender, A soul powered weapon that fires a BFG-like projectile with a ridiculously huge area of effect. It's well worth backtracking for as it trivialises some late game encounters.

Zdoom allows the use of contemporary music formats such as MP3 in place of Midi, and ZDCMP2 takes full advantage of this. The opening track scored by James Paddock still live rent free in my mind nearly a decade later.

And if your still not satisfied, there are New Game + and New Game ++ version's of the map that will test even the most seasoned Doom veterans.

It took me just under 3 hours to complete this Wad.

I would highly recommend ZDCMP's 1 and 2 to anyone curious about the features Zdoom and it's derivative's have to offer.

Absolutely stunning visuals and nice gameplay. This map is a monster to finish (1 hour minimum for a standard playthrough and add 1 to 2 extra hours to find all the secrets and shit). 5/5, a must play.

A well made wad indeed but, it's a bit too large. I experienced no lag on a beefy system so no problems there. Other than that ya'll did an outstanding job. ZDCMP3? :)

Other than the fact that it lags like hell, it's awesome.

Impressive map however in no way recommended for purists! There is a bunch of new weapons that are very different to standard Doom 2 arsenal, and various new enemies including several bosses. Also, map is more like a seamless hub or open world episode than your regular large map. I agree with comment about excessive detailing, there are severe framerate drops that could have been avoided. Alas, this is as *finished* as it will ever get, so I expect no new fixes and optimizations.

Ending was rather meh: bossfight was easy as hell and escape section was annoying (also only the one setion that was lagging). Other than that there're really nothing bad to say. Oh, and props for not making layout too confusing.

I thought the escape part was pretty bullshit, but I guess I can blame that on my piece of shit laptop that had my framerate in single figures for that whole section, which made basically everything damn difficult. This map was just amazing. I hope I get to play this again with a decent system, because this is easily the greatest map I have ever played. Big, BIG thanks to everyone involved for creating this.

This is one of the greatest WADs ever made, and you'll see why when you play it. An absolute phenomenon of ZDoom scripting, the only problem is, it CRASHES after a while. :( Still, it's good enough to make me give it 5 stars. A fantastic beautiful level set in the jungle, no wonder it required so many people.

I had a review in this for the works, but it got unplayably laggy 2/3 of the way in. This is a case where hardware requirements really out to be indicated on equal footing with port requirements, if you ask me. Other than that, great map.

I have to knock a star off because the map design is just too excessive. Certain areas, such as that outer area near the start, the portal dig site and a few hell areas caused severe slowdown. I think a few simplifications here and there would cut down on that without affecting the map's appearance in any way. Otherwise it was a fun map.

legendary, but uses both "shitting in the woods" shadow imps, and anorectic, yellow skull shooting imps.

I can't, just can't find any major flaw here. Excellent visuals, excellent gameplay (this is how new weapon and monster replacements should be handled!), excellent handling of flow and progression (something that many other gigantic maps lack). Both quality and quantity of fun this map provides more than justify 50+ MB download (not to mention that there is new game+, which increases replayability even more). 5/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
