About This File

A 5L1C spin-off wad. It's just one medium-sized map but quite a tricky one, so pick a lower skill level if you need to. Your mission is to send an SOS signal and escape from the Deneb colony. And don't miss MAP02. (Deneb is the brightest star in constellation Capricornus.)

Boring level design and monster placement. Quite high difficulty for the wrong reasons. The style really wasn't my cup of tea. Not bad, but not worth playing either.

so tempted to give this a five. HOWEVER, there are just too many pain elemental and revenant ambushes though. also that maze at the southern end was atrocious. the midi was also very annoying too.

I like the visuals and good use of custom textures, but overall it is dissapointing for me. The layout is quite simple and dull, fights are quite boring, there are lot of corners, where you can stuck easily. 3/5 - Damned

Excellent visuals. I wanted to rate this 5 out of 5 at first, but the annoying fights got me irritated pretty quickly. Most of the time you get swarmed by pain elementals. There's one instance where you're swarmed by unfair amount of revenants, and at least one instance where you have to snipe revenants with SSG while more pain elementals come out. Don't make your traps luck based!

Great level design and pumping soundtrack. The ammo is damn scarce though meaning lots of carefully placed shots and use of non-berserk fist. Pretty fun to play though. 4/5. -TRRobin.

The atmosphere and the look of the first area is very good. The rooms behind the yellow and red doors aren't done with enthusiasm, they are missing creativity compared with the first part. An overworked and bugfree rerelease would be good. 3.5*

Mixed bag. Quite rectangularly designed level with a lot of more or less open areas, overall layout is imho too simple (2) compared to: great use of new textures (4), very good decoration (4). Music is irritating (2). Gameplay @ UV is dominated by open-air fights with a monster flood, with way, way too many PE's (2). Overall: difficult to rate because too unbalanced in quality, so 3/5 + 1 for the effort = small 4/5, but as-is not good enough for a 2nd play.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
