About This File

Sometime ago, finally, you trashed that old and rusty pentium 2 with win98, your thinking it's simple "get a upgrade" but when you take that piece of garbage, stranger forces abrupts your try and teleports you to a virtual reallity hosted by your old friend, the only path to exit is destroying his deep virtual ass, it will be hard.

The atmosphere is really quite impressive, but the design of the map itself is on par with the city levels from doom 2.

There's an old Fairly Oddparents episode where Timmy enters his computer (and the computers of others, via the internet), and this wad is much alike in that it's a conceptualization of a computer's file and folder structure, morphed into a physical space that one can walk around inside of. Hits me with really strong feelings of nostalgia and sentimentality for my own operating systems from years ago.

The texture theme is original but not my taste. Much worse is that the gameplay is plain meh. So overall 2* + 1 for its originality.

Inspired concept but frustrating puzzles. There's moderately intense combat in cramped locations. The juxtaposition of abstract architecture in primary colours with bitmaps from Windows and the early Internet is worth seeing and the music does a good job of setting the ambiance. Unfortunately there's no consistency about what a switch, door, lift or teleporter looks like, or which walls are impassible. Many doors only open when you shoot unrelated walls. Not recommended unless you have a lot of patience.

it looks cool, the fights in this map could be better, it probably would have helped to have a SSG to fight off those lost souls.

it's good, weird computery map design, but it's more of that funny 90s pun thing. Funny prono music too. It's like wins98, but map-wise. didn't know what happened, but finished it before I knew what was going on. ~3/5

Well, I think we've finally tapped out as much as we can from Doom. I can't possibly see how anything new can be released from now on since this is obviously the epitome of wads. It's a shame that Mordeth missed the boat but it's been a good 22 years.

It's... weird. Boring gameplay. I think it'd be more fun to play this with -nomonsters.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
