Oh hey, I made my first Doom map i made back in school.
 

Surely it's a nostalgic trip back to those days, but the map itself, well, it's a hellish mess.
 

So, back then, on that day at school, that schoolmate and I suggested making a Doom map. Since I was in a band, he ended up giving me one of the songs he was writing with his group, and I, clearly a little kid with the most basic knowledge of mapping and creating Doom maps, ended up accepting and making the map with that piece of music. that they hear on the WAD. The reason a section of Fortress of Mystery was on the map was because the guy in the band said, "Hey, just copy and paste that part, no one will notice," and they ended up noticing it.
 

I would like to emphasize that I accept the fact that the map is a disastrous piece of shit, so I only have a few laughs for myself, remembering with some affection my first attempt at a Doom map

Ugly. Rectangular rooms and corridors with flesh textures. Then there's a room ripped from E2M9. The custom music is an unprofessionally sounding recording of a generic black metal "song". Skippable.

Quite amateurish. Quite short, mostly rectangular layout, awful texture use, no decoration, simplistic monster placement, and gameplay which is about not there.

A plain but not at all bad 1995-ish map. Use of ZDoom features is scarce, but it is technically there. That music is fucking awful, terribly awful, though.

      I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

      Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason.       A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

      Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

      I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
