Very good grabbag of maps: Some are OK and others are awesome in terms of layout and difficulty, but I didn't really finish the last 15 maps, overall J'ai aimé ça.

A big bunch of random maps but well enough to be fun and quite unique. Some are rather bland but some others can be quite extensive and fresh. Dispite the wierd spikes in overall quality, the megawads gets the job done, being iconic by this point thanks to it's historic value. The whole megawad is full of small-medium sized maps so that's even better.

Well that was a random mix of crazy. It’s impressive what can be done with 3 hours. Some are better at it than others but overall all of these are competent maps. Some perhaps... good in their own way. While this was not my favorite style of wad, at all, it was still enjoyable to go through. Taking on one a day, sometimes more, given the short and sweet nature was pleasing. Didn’t think I would but some actually surprised me with how much I liked them. 4/5

Check out the Doom Wad of the Month Club's playthrough for an in depth look.

much better than 3ha2. the levels all play well, and it does get hard at the end, but only MAP32, MAP29, and MAP30 felt like true slaughtermaps.

At first you lull yourself into the simple but fun Doom 2 replica, play through a few maps, think the WAD is fun and then ANAL FUCK TO THE FACE HAPPENS! (just imagine how that must look). I think that maybe playing it on a difficulty level lower than UV would make the experience more smooth and less crushing as I can't recommend UV unless you like retrying a lot. I still have no idea how you're supposed to survive being suddenly surrounded by an army of arch-viles.

Well designed levels and solid fast paced gameplay. Can turn into a bit of a slaughter fest in the later levels

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
