About This File

i like to keep my doom 2 installation floppies attached to my computer with magnets so i don't lose them

some can experience seizures when exposed to flashing lights or other visual stimuli. even if you've never been diagnosed, please be stop playing this wad if you encounter disorientation, lightheadedness, altered vision, involuntary twitching/jerking movements, or momentary loss of awareness/consciousness. i tried very hard to avoid anything that would cause physical discomfort but everyone is different

this wad does not work with qz/gz/zandronum as it relies on the old zdoom software renderer and other quirks specific to zdoom (or zdoomLE). you need 2.8.1 or newer

Sorry lilith haters, the war over avant-garde art was fought several decades before you were born, and your side lost. Womp womp.

This is an all-out assault on the senses. I couldn't even stomach playing it to the end, only getting about 7 maps in and then giving up. The idea is unique but it feels cheap, like when a poorly-made creepypasta game "glitches out" in an attempt to spook the player. Play something else and spare your eyes.

Definitely a very creative and experimental map. It took me by surprise several times, and I got quite a few scares (even at times when absolutely nothing dangerous was happening, and I really admire that). You can see that it's a well-calculated experimentalism (although, eventually, there are moments when you realize that the author was just trying out a few things to see if they worked). Warning: it's a map I couldn't play from start to finish in one go because I started to feel sick, but nothing too serious.

At first I thought I'd give it four stars for one reason: despite all the great experimentalism, at the end of the day I felt like I was just playing a sequence of ok Doom maps, even if they were... quite different. However, I can see that the general opinion of the map is rather polarized, which I think is kinda unfair: the work that has been done on this wad seems to have been astronomical, and so I'm going to give it a full five stars (the soundtrack helped me give this extra star. Far out!).

Asks the intimate question: "Would you still love me if I-"

And then everything turned itself inside-out.

Like seriouly, who enjoys this? Like really, what part about this is enjoyable?

The only thing that is good is the soundtrack.

I'm convinced the only reason this was ever given a cacoward was just to bother Zahl. There's literally no reason that I can come up with why someone would cacoward this.

Played few maps and oh god, I could barely understand anything :D As if I'm playing an old Pokémon game with bad cheat codes that totally ruins the game. Like everything is mixed up into a world of pixelated trash. But however it looks... deep within my heart says, it's not that bad actually. It's rather an another experience for me!

Now i know people are going to be like "5 stars? What the fuck is wrong with you?" well my young patawon i will tell you why i give this 5 stars.

This wad may of be insulting my eyes the whole time playing this wad but you have to give it credit where credit is due. Not only this wad was "fun" (i say it like that because it was a legit nightmare to play it) but i have to give it respect for being something surreal and bizarre. Now i know doom is supposed to be a survival horror fps game from the 90's but this, this felt like i was stepping in the world of corrupting, suffering and disrepair.

Not many doom wads can do that to me on first play through, but this.....Oh man this, this felt like someone or something's personal digital hell and they can not escape it. I will pull a Mt. Pain 27 here and say that it feels this is what doom is going to be like in the future when we forgot about the past for so long, when we return to the good old days of the yesteryear's this would be our memories of what doom would look like on a corrupted old floppy disk of the past life.

Now if you think this is a shit post review it's not. This is an actual review i made from playing this, i don't like the idea of making meme comments or say something is trashy, those aren't reviews, those are people not willing to take there time and write out what they actually think of a wad or a project. All i'm saying is if you like the surreal nature of corruption and getting your eyes insulted by glitched textures and sprites....Give this a go and experience what it would be like to be trapped in a ancient digital hell with no escaping the prison it bounds what ever or who ever may be inside.

Genuinely unnerving set of levels that reminded me of my days playing Pokemon and exploring all the effects of video game corruption. Really gives off a feeling that your exploring broken corrupted data at great risk, and that your curiosity is whats driving you forward. Some players can only see errors and garbled mess, others see a world to nervously explore, so this wad is not for everyone.

All too short for my liking, and requiring a very specific port to work hampens the score for me.

Unique?  Absolutely.  Unplayable?  Absolutely.  Worst doom experience I've ever had.  One star for the absolute headache, a bonus star for the uniqueness but goddamn it sucks to play.

The most avant-garde Doom will ever get. Obviously not a WAD for everyone, the core target for such a mod is mainly people who are in video game glitches, corruptions and to some extent, creepypastas (whether that love is ironic or not). Nothing works as it is supposed to. You can hardly understand most of the things that are happening to you. Some of the custom monsters (like the hitscanning corrupted pinky) will put you on edge and keep you paranoid about the ruleset of the game.

The aesthetic of lilith.pk3 is one of a kind, horribly mangling the rendering engine of old ZDoom beyond belief to disform sprites, textures, text and even sound effects. The end result makes close to no sense, your Doom marine sprite is heavily dislocated and looks more like one of those creatures from Alien than a human being and the list goes on and on. The confused looks obviously doesn't always make for clean or concise gameplay, especially in later levels which crank the confusion up to eleven and manipulate the level geometry to do things you thought weren't possible in the game. Even basic things like crushers, slime pits or a turnstile look horribly out of shape and makes the player uncomfortable.

This is essentially what lilith boils down to: an unfamilarity to something we thought we knew by heart, a rising sense of uncomfort as the level design makes less and less sense and offering the player a new perspective on what Doom is. Don't play lilith expecting top-notch Doom gameplay, but play it for the one of a kind experience it offers you. For the better and for the worse, there are no WADs like lilith anywhere and there will never be.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
