About This File

This map was created to test my skills in vanilla mapping. I liked how results turned out and decided to submit it here. Map is short and quick and it shouldn't take too long to finish.

A stylish but a pretty fun map. Starts off a bit slow but gets pretty chaotic quickly in the middle of it. The color palette adds to the gothic theme of the map, making it visually stunning. While it may fall on the easy side of things if you're a fairly decent player, it's still a nice map to try out and go through.

Quick and fun to play map. Well chosen music and nice gothic setting. Medium/high difficulty.

Nice little map. The Arch-Vile at the start was unnecesary IMO though, since it was nothing but an annoyance. In fact, it didn't even resurrect the Mancubus (although I don't know if that was luck or GZDoom breaking vanilla stuff), but even if it did, I don't really see the point.

Still, it's a chaotic and fun map where it matters most.

If you remove the fancy color-palette, what remains? A church-like level with some vertical arch-vile tediousness, some serious combat that will actually make you sweat a little and cacodemon/pain-elemental invasion that's again more tedious than dangerous and all you need to do is take cover and kill everyone that comes at you. Progression is straight-forward and the level does feel like it'd belong in an arena shooter. The fight at the exit can be skipped as the exit opens at the same time when enemies do.

that is a NICE fucking palette used, and the map itself is actually short and fun, but hard enough to be worthwhile. beat it in less than three minutes.

Stylish and generally a pretty fun map to blast through if you have a spare 10 minutes.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
