About This File

Exomoon (aka Moonblood X) is a megawad for Doom 2. The levels are a mix of the original Moonblood with early BTSX levels. It has the ruins/temple theme with some exotic natural landscapes. Scythe and Mano Laikas also are a strong influence. It has been tested on ZDoom 2.8 and PrBoom+ 2.5.1.3.

Good megawad! Great map designs and the flow of gameplay felt really good and balanced.

Its pretty ok. Decently impressive but in the first level there is a hall of mirrors effect for the sky. It sort of feels like plutonia at times with  some of the monsters.

Exomoon is a 24-level megawad slated to be the successor to Moonblood, so if you are expecting to see some similar styles of gameplay here, well, you'll find some. but for the most part Exomoon is quite different. it takes after Plutonia, but instead of giving us loads of small but difficult levels to play through, the majority of maps are actually medium-sized, somewhere around the length it would take to finish The Sewers (Plutonia MAP28).

and of course, it's certainly on the level of something just a tad above Plutonia, like early AV, BTSX, or mid-UR difficulty. the monster placement centers around the ones who are of the biggest annoyances, like mancubi, chaingunners, and arachnotrons, also throwing in multiple new ones like arachnorbs (tougher than Valiant) and terrors (faster lost souls). there's even a few boss fights. layout-wise, these medium-sized maps are all non-linear, with action right from the start in most cases. trying to get a feel of where you are in the level and where you're supposed to go can lead into some trouble in some cases, but overall, the experience of playing through each map is still enjoyable, hard, but enjoyable.

because i'm personally not a fan of these boss fights, or even MAP18 which took way too long, i'm giving this four stars. it's worth at least one go just to see what has been accomplished. tackling all these settings feels like such.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
