About This File

A bunch of pretty tough levels I've been working on since Jan 95 and built mostly with Doomcad, because its What I learned on. I made a lot of little fixes with DCK and plan on using it from now on. :)

yep, easy and mediocre. most modern newbie maps are far better than this in comparison. don't like the mazes.

Back in 1999 or 2000 I got a shovelware CD that contain various shareware/freeware games along with Doom & Doom 2 wads dating back to up to 1995. A few years later when I got Udoom & started playing custom wads, this was one of those such wads.

Allroy is an easy Episode 1 replacement of mediocre maps that you would may or may not expect someone's first set of levels to be back in 95. However due to my nostalgia, I did had some odd sick enjoyment from them...or maybe it was the beer talking as I type this.

Certainly a mediocre early level set, yet it has some merits. Unlike many bad old WADs, it marks the exits properly and doesn't really use annoying traps or mechanics. It's mostly rather easy to navigate, if somewhat dragging, and the fighting is light but often half decent. The music and graphics are crap so I just deleted everything except the levels. Absolutely the worst set of levels I have ever seen. Zero design, zero architecture - endless nondescript single-texture rectangular rooms connected by corridors. This WAD makes 90% of the levels from the preceding year look brilliant. - N_A

This is just a typical 95 Wad; Horrible design, horrible texture alignment, and just god awful gameplay mechanics.

Too much running around. Way to big sectors in some maps and too time consuming. Way way WAY too easy on UV. Dont get this unless you have a good half hour to waste.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
