About This File

Me and Greg wanted to do an awesome Deathmatch level but with all the ideas we had it kinda grew a little large . Still very good if you have the incentive to learn it. Good for 3 & 4 player network.

Oh yeah, "classic" Cabal action by Kvernmo. The usual ammo & health (and even weapon!) starvation at the beginning, all the more emphasized by a zombie shooting you in the back as soon as you start, as a kind of "Fuck you/welcome". But thanks to the low monster count and ample spaces to run around, you will only need to tyson, what, just a couple of chaingunners and revs, tops, before you grab the SSG. There weren't even that many barrels around, maybe just a bunch near one door...and virtually no traps. Losing our "bite", aren't we, "Master" Kvernmo?

Long story short. in the end I had so much ammo left (for every available gun, may I add), I felt almost betrayed. Then again, knowing this was a Kvernmo map I abused infighting and tysoning every chance I got (TWO shells to kill a Pinky, or worse, an IMP? HERESY! Even Revenants hardly deserve getting offed with actual firepower...RIP AND TEAR!). I almost felt bad that it was over so quick. There was room for AT LEAST 200 more monsters. WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH ME?!

OK, TBQH this felt like a low effort WAD compared to other in the Cabal series, at least as far as solo play goes, that's why I'm docking one star out of the three I originally awarded.

Third in the Cabal series. Deathmatch level that went out of control. Short and challenging.

It's fun but a bit short, and the jump to the red key at the end was a bit *too* obtuse given that the rest of the level emphasised action. But the room with the pillars is a very nice early example of fake light-sourcing. It reminded me of Doom's Unholy Cathedral although I prefer this to that.

Like its prequels, this is a very short and quite hard map (depending on the way you choose at the beginning), and it's carefully built, too, in the classical style of Doom2. However, I found the first two maps more interesting than this one. (2.5/5)

The third Cabal map seems to take a dive in quality with random texturing and even less detail. There's also some baffling parts, like the almost-mandatory secret SSG and the jump to the red key. Still, it's good for its time. 3.5/5

a good map, nothing really stands out however, and the red key was rather hard to find, a good map overall though

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
