About This File

This level is for DOOM 2 Level 07. I chose level 7 because it has my favorite music in the game. This is NOT a sloppy level, no fuckups, it was nodes built perfectly, all textures are aligned (at least the really noticable ones, I didn't really feel like driving my self insane!). This is also an extremely complex and compact level and is very large.

Amazing attention to detail. This was made 21 years ago when the editing programs then make the ones now look like ms paintbrush. I had fun with the gameplay, no groundbreaking material - just a big, complex and functional level.

I like it, and I enjoyed playing it. There is a Spider Mastermind and a Cyberdemon. Just press the switch in UV in the outside area and Voila! -NaZa Productions

Competently made, nothing really memorable. It's very easy and plays more like a Doom 1 map. I couldn't find the way to the exit.

A great pwad, considering it's both from 1995 and the author's first map. Ben Gates also made E1M5 of the classic wad Fava Beans. The style of this map is similar, with all sorts of mechanical details and windows for sniping. It's easy even on UV, but it's still very fun. 4/5

Three stars for the level, though. The author comes across as an absolute tit in the readme file, but the level is competently done albeit with slightly odd play balance (lots of weak monsters, almost no strong ones, and a boss battle that pits you - armed with a BFG and an invincibility sphere - against a single Arachnotron!). With a bit of tinkering it wouldn't be amiss in a modern-day retro megawad.

You should place a cyberdemon which comes on HMP, UV and nightmare and a Baron of Hell on ITYTD and HNR.

Good level. For those who claim there is no Cyberdemon, try playing this level on UV. Not only is there a Cyberdemon at the end (near the red exit door), but there is also a Mother Spider too. This level is beatable in UV.

This is an early map, but it's not that bad looking. All textures are well-aligned, the texturing is logical and the lighting and layout of the map are interesting enough. The map is quite big and nice to play in. But unfortunately, it's also very easy. I never needed the rocket launcher, let alone the Plasma and the BFG, and an Invincibility sphere at the end didn't make any sense at all - where was the Cyber?? 2/5 -Milian

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
