About This File

This level is a well designed level with lots of uproarious shooting and killing. Plenty of secrets to find (although none are necessary for the completion of the level, they will make the going easier though). Each secret has a "clue" of some kind, be it a misaligned texture or a subtle view of the place through a window, or the like.

Was having good 5 star enjoyment here - but then the author had to go full idiot and include a ~25 Lost Soul ambush... That poisoned the whole experience completely, so only 2 stars for you. Don't do the stupid again OK?

This is a fun, early-ish level in an E1 style. It would probably have been laughed at in 1996, for being old-fashioned, but I enjoyed it. You get a secret berzerk pack early on, and the level is entertaining if you do it Tyson style. The textures are a bit wonky but, by criminy, it was 1996, people were too busy partying and living their lives and getting their freak on. Judging by the email address, Doug Ryerson got his freak on... with plants.

Bad: A few misaligned textures (although this is intentional at least once); Not exceptionally challenging. Good: Most everything else. Recommended. 3/5 -VV

A pretty good E1/E2-styled base, with lots of clever secrets and nice gameplay. Texture alignment is sometimes off, and it's rather plain in places, but it's got some nice fights to take your mind off that. :-) The progression is quite elegant, and although there's a lot to do, you never lose track of where you are or where you are going. I really missed a couple of rad suits from time to time, though. Finding all 10 secrets won't be easy! Good map. --4/5

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
