**** Introduction ****
[What is Terror?]
Terror is a new level for Doom2 players to try their luck at. It includes a
dehacked patch which makes some minor changes to some of the Doom2 weapons
and monsters. The dehacked patch requires an original Doom2.exe file to build
the patch from, although the original Doom2.exe will not be modified. Instead
a file named TERR.EXE will be created.
[The DeHacked file]
DO NOT DISTRIBUTE THE FILE TERR.EXE IN ANY FORM! The file TERR.EXE is built
from your Doom2.exe and is almost identical. To distribute this file would
be an act of PIRACY, so don't do it. TERR.EXE is still technically a Doom2.exe
file and thus belongs to Id Software.
Oh, and if you HAVE a pirate copy of Doom, just remember that:
a) You are going to HELL
b) Id programmers have families to feed, you know...
c) What you are doing is illegal
d) How could you cheat the nice bunch of guys who made your
favourite game?
[Using Terror]
The easiest way to use Terror is to unzip the file TERROR.ZIP and copy all the
files into your Doom2 directory. With all the files in the Doom2 directory,
using Terror should be a simple matter of running TERROR.BAT
The batch file TERROR.BAT uses a simple menu system and even includes an option
to erase all traces of Terror from your Doom2 directory.
[ For People with Doom2 in a directory OTHER than C:\DOOM2 ]
If you have Doom2 in a directory other than C:\DOOM2, things will not work
properly. This is very easy to solve, however.
All you have to do is modify the file DEHACKED.INI with a text editor such as
MS-DOS EDIT. Search the file for all references to C:\doom2 and replace them
with the path to your own Doom2 directory. For example, you would change:
if your Doom2 directory was D:\GAMES\DOOM2
editname = c:\doom2\terr.exe
to
editname = d:\games\doom2\terr.exe
and
patchdir = c:\doom2
to
patchdir = d:\games\doom2
It is important that you do this if your Doom2 directory is NOT C:\DOOM2

[Problems with Terror]
Although it is unlikely, you may experience problems with Terror and Doom2.
I stress that problems are very unlikely, but the paranoid amongst you may
wish to back-up their Doom2 wad.
The file TERROR.WAD must be merged with the DOOM2 wad for Terror to work
properly. If something goes wrong Doom2 may not load properly. The steps
described below should help to solve problems with the Doom2 wad.
For the advanced user, any problems with Terror should be simple to solve.
If, however, you come across a problem you can't solve, you may have to
re-install Doom2. First, though, from your Doom2 directory type:
NWT -restore
Then try running Doom2 again. If this hasn't worked then try using the batch
file TERROR.BAT and selecting "Remove Terror from this computer".
This will erase Terror from the Doom2 directory, and try to restore your
Doom2 wad.
Remember, if all else fails just re-install Doom2.
