About This File

DOOM95.EXE will work with any DOOM or DOOM2 main wadfile.

With DOOM95, you no longer need to keep your main wads in seperate directories. Copy all main wad files (DOOM.WAD, DOOM2.WAD, PLUTONIA.WAD, TNT.WAD, etc) to the DOOM95 directory and launch DOOM95. To play, choose the appropriate wad file from the launcher and then start the game.

I used this for years with the Maximum wad CD before I discovered the Doom ports, it's pretty good even now, although the blur effect screws up with my newer computer

Im pretty sure quite a few of us (Like me) used this port before discovering other ports. Man....this port is about as close to normal doom you can get on windows.d Definately should be an automatic 5*

this is the wad that replaced the original doom.exe engine and subsequently made it unavailable to mainstream distribution. the fact that i cannot have THE ORIGINAL FILES without either trusting that someone's disks still work or that i may find some other means is the sign of only one thing: that this is the scummiest thing to have ever happened to the world of doom... ZERO STARS

Doom 95 was pretty good for running Doom natively in MS Windows back in the day (I'm talking '95-96). Modern day computers (anything 2000+) will likely have lots of issues running this smoothly so use something like zdoom (port with lots of new features) or chocolate doom (if you want to get a 'vanilla' DOOM experience) instead. This might have some nostalgic value, but otherwise it's hugely outdated.

Yuck. I had this when I got Doom Collector's Edition and hated it until i discovered source ports. I want to puke at the site of seeing this old nightmare again. Though it is useful to have on the site, so I give it a 2/5 instead of none.

I thought Doom95 was ok. It comes closer to the original Doom than any other source port I've used, but it still doesn't feel as authentic as just running the original DOS Doom. Also, it won't run most of the PWADs I like. 3/5

Like the Doom Collector's Edition, this will not run on Windows 7. +0 stars for being too antiquated to be useful to anyone who has a PC manufactured in this century.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
