Title : The UAC Dam Facility
Filename : UAC_WET.WAD
Author : Ben Turner

WWW Page : http://www.worldlynx.net/bent/index.htm
Check out my page if you're into games. I review
both games and game soundtracks.
Misc. Author Info : 18 year old from Collegeville, PA. This is my
first WAD that I felt was good enough to be
released (or that I even finished). Hey! Anyone
still there? Hello?!
Other WADs by author : CONTROL1.WAD - A DM level where you have a great
deal of control over where your opponent can go.
Why I'm not making : I DON'T HAVE WINDOWS 95!!! AAAARRRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
Quake levels (QUEST doesn't work on my system.) :(
Misc. Level Info : This level started as a sort of homage to E1M7,
the computer lab of Doom1. I loved that level
(and I really HATED most of episodes 2 and 3.
Just me, I guess). Anyway, after developing
the story, I began to see level 14 as a base for
a much larger WAD (UAC_DAM.WAD), which I may or
may not ever finish (About half of its seven levels
are completed). Seeing as I may never finish what
I consider my masterpiece, I've decided to release
this, the first of the seven levels. It's got
what I think is one of the coolest Doom puzzles
ever, in the form of a "combination lock" in the
sewers. Check it out.
In my opinion it's the little details that
make all the difference, and there's plenty of them.
You'll see. I hope you like it. If you have time
drop me a line and tell me what you think.
I love getting feedback.
Description : UAC has called you in to save their collective ass
once again. Seems some troops stationed at their
(This is the story Rio hydroelectric plant have gone berserk and
for the all of the (with the help of a few dozen denizens of Hell)
seven levels, not have taken over the plant. The blueprints that
just the first.) the UAC suits show you during the briefing reveal
that in addition to the main dam, there's a sewer,
vault (?), and storage area in the facility. More
interesting, there's a vast network of tunnels
and chambers within the mountain that the base was
built into. UAC believes that whatever caused the
marines to go berserk originated within these
catacombs.
"Your mission is to infiltrate the base and purge
the invasion force. Once the dam facility is
secured, descend into the catacombs and destroy
whatever it is that's in there. If you survive,
find a way out of the mountain and signal for
pickup."
"That's all?" you smirk. "Easy money."
The suit doesn't smile. Instead, he points to
a sign.

In his droning monotone, he croaks "It's time."
Then he chokes on the Jolly Rancher he was eating.
You shake your head, as you watch his body spasm.
You knew this story couldn't stay serious for long.
Your briefing over, you board the waiting UAC
shuttle. You're dropped into the heart of the
complex, and your mission begins...

* Construction *
Base : All are new levels from scratch
Editor(s) used : DCK v2.2 NWT v1.2 DEEPBSP v4.0 Neopaint v2.2a
TED v1.2
Little anecdote: About halfway through the
development of these levels, I got DCK v3.2, which
I had eagerly awaited. After playing with it for
about an hour, I was shocked. It was crap! There
were so many little annoying bugs it was amazing
that they weren't caught and fixed. In fact, I
almost lost my first level to its evil node
builder. And to top it all off, features that
worked in v2.2 were crippled in this one. With
all due respect to Ben Morris, (who, after all,
made the awesome v2.2) I can't believe he let
that.. that beast be released. It looks like I'll
be sticking with 2.2 for a while now, until
something comes out that surpasses it (which
seems unlikely). What a shame. :(
Build Time : At least, oh, 100 hours (can you see why I never
finished the other levels? I'm too damn
meticulous!)
Known Bugs : Nothing that will detract from the level,
except that it might be a bit slow at times
on anything less than a P100... :(

But now it's probably on your hard drive. Go play it.........Now.
Actually, wait a sec and read below.
* Additional Notes *
If you're a serious Doom player you'll play UV. However, lower difficulty
levels are implemented if you're really having a bad day.
There's a secret cyberdemon you can unleash on level 14 if you're feeling
particularly evil in an UV net game (hopefully DM where ammo respawns :)).
Just go into the tiny little polygonally shaped room where the blue key is
and fire a weapon (or just punch if you're really cheap). A cyberdemon
will awaken and warp into the level to wreck havoc.
Sometimes the combination lock in the level 14 sewers malfunctions (because
it's so old :)) and won't work correctly. This happens if you run around
too much and/or hit the buttons too fast. Solution: input the correct
sequence a bit more slowly. Personally, I check the map to see if the
path is open before dashing back out into the sewers. (Don't worry if
none of this made sense, you'll see what I mean when you get there.)

* Level 14 - UAC Dam Facility *
After visiting the vault, check the room where you started for anything
that may have changed.
There are many secrets (well, 3) that are only given away by the sound
of a door opening and closing. If you don't hear it, you'll most
likely miss the secrets. If you find a door that just won't open, try
walking around in the general area. Perhaps you'll trip the linedef that
opens it...
There are no places inaccessible to the player. If you can't get in
somewhere, try doing everything else possible in the level (switches, etc.)
and then coming back.
There are many secret areas in the Facility, and all have clues like
different lighting or unusual thing placement to reveal their locations.
Except for one... but it's a given that you're supposed to try to walk
into waterfalls, right? ;)
OK, NOW go play it...
