Memento Mori 1 - complete lmp collection
----------------------------------------
Recorded by George Bell, Istvan Pataki, Peo Sjoblom and Yonatan Donner.
This is a collection of recorded demos (lmps) for all 32 levels of Memento
Mori 1. All lmps were recorded on skill 4 (Ultra-Violence), ending with at
least 100% kills and 100% secrets, as fast as possible, where it's possible.
Some levels are coop-optimized. In these levels we got the maximum possible
amount of kills and secrets in the shortest time.
To playback these demos, type: doom2 -file mm.wad [mmmus.wad] -playdemo
mm??-uv, where ?? is the level number. You must have doom2 version 1.9 and
the updated version of Memento Mori to play these demos.
Comments about this project:
George Bell
-----------
This collection was completed in less than a month, a tribute to a
team effort by some very good players. I seem to have less and
less time for serious DOOMing these days but it was still fun to
record a couple of levels at a pace worthy of this team (no small
task, keeping that pace).
I was excited to play "the original" Memento Mori, because Andy Olivera
and Walt Bilofsky have both raved to me about how great it is. But I
still think I prefer MM2 over MM1 slightly. At least there does not
seem a great difference in quality (as particularly Andy seems to think).
Both collections have some great levels and a couple of poor ones.
DOOM it seems will never die (at least not for another year I think).
To be released still are Requiem (this century? :-) and Yonatan's
Mega-WAD for true pros - Hell Revealed. These should keep us lmp
makers busy the rest of '97!
Special tribute to Peo who has a remarkable appetite for watching lmps
(even bad ones ;^). I must admit I have not (yet) watched every lmp
in this collection ...
Personal information:
I guess I am the old man (36) of this team and the lone American.
Istvan Pataki
-------------
This was the first time when I was a member of such a team, and I almost
missed this one too, I joined the team later and I could do only the remaining
3 maps... anyway I'm glad that I joined the team, I received almost every
day one or two great lmps, so they really pushed the gas pedal ;-)
I like most George's map 17, great map -> great lmp, watch it and enjoy.
Personal information:
I'm a 3rd year student at Technical University Budapest, addicted to doom, I
like every kind of '.lmp's, especially the nightmare movies. I started to play
seriously after watching some nightmare demos of Steffen Winterfeldt, Andreas
Kren, and Daniel Lindgren. They are so cool everyone should watch them.
Almost every great player are using mouse controls, I'm staying at my old
keyboard only config, sometimes I use some autorun and fast 180 angle turning,
but apart of this keyboard only...
I also like death metal a lot, and every kind of hackings....
Peo Sjoblom
-----------
This was a funny project and not too demanding.. Cudos to all other
team mates! I recommend these lmps:
Map 17 by "Minus" George, where he explores his passion for gravecrypts!
His other two are his daughter and mountaineering. (he was on the famous
Monty Python expedition to Kilimanjaro´s two peeks:)
Map 28 by Istvan where he gives a meaning to the word "Magyarkillers"!
Map 30 by Yonatan since I have always enjoyed when he bites on cybie rockets!
Memento Mori has the best Doom music I have ever heard, great stuff!!

This collection was a lot of fun to make, and it shows how much better we
got, since we did it so easily and so quickly, I enjoyed very much doing
this with George, Istvan and Peo, these team collections are really great!
Thanks guys for participating in this project... I hope you watchers will
enjoy the lmps too.

Descriptions
------------
The descriptions were written by the team member who recorded the map.
MM-01 - The Teleporter
----------------------
A great beginning map, small and fun. The only problem in speeding through
this is that you have to wait before closing the teleporter, because you
should let everyone teleport or else you wouldn't get 100% kills. So I left
some guys in the start alive and went to kill them while waiting for the
enemies to teleport.
MM-02 - The Bridge
------------------
A beautiful but quite empty map.
MM-03 - Interlock
-----------------
A nice and small map.
MM-04 - The Stand
-----------------
I would have given this thumbs up if there would have been a better
weapon for the hellknights/barons scene close to the end. As it is, it
passed the test by a close margin..
MM-05 - Hell's Kitchen
----------------------
A beautiful Circle-Of-Death-style map, very fun to play. Great job Orin!
Many powerups, the only tough part is when you teleport to the area with the
two hellknights and they can trap you (which happened in this lmp, they
nearly killed me).
MM-06 - The Powerstation
------------------------
Very funny map to play!!
MM-07 - Not That Simple
-----------------------
Ouch! I really don´t like mazes and this has a maze that is filled with
plasmathrowers and fat flamethrowers, a reason to start hostilities
between Denmark and Sweden again. (mapbuilder is from Denmark, this
player is from Sweden) Terrible map!!
MM-08 - And The Dead Shall Rise
-------------------------------
Another great level, navigating on these ledges isn't too hard, what is
annoying is the sergeants that can't be reached and therefore you have to
wait for them to come to a visible place where you can kill them.
MM-09 - Hightech Grave
----------------------
Love to play this map, never seen so many shellboxes before for this
mapsize and opposition! It has tons of stupid secrets though. The best
music I ever have heard while playing Doom..
MM-10 - The Mansion
-------------------
Quite an ugly and boring level, and there are monsters far away from you
which take time to kill.
MM-11 - Halls Of Insanity
-------------------------
You cannot get 100% kills in single mode on this, besides that I have
forgotten it.. there are also no secrets in this map.
MM-12 - Kinetics
----------------
The ugliest map in MM. I did it before we started the collection, because
there was no previous lmp for it. It's not hard, but very ugly. Maybe there
are some ammo problems, I know I had lots of ammo, maybe that's because I
punched the hellknights in the start. There are no secrets here.
MM-13 - The Inmost Dens II
--------------------------
A very nice map, I still like the original more though. Or the best Inmost
Dens style map I've ever seen: Plutonia 18. But still, this one is quite
fun, no dangerous areas. And the wait in the end is annoying.
MM-14 - Aquaduct
----------------
Another beautiful map, tons of cells in the end. Some textures alignment
could help, though. I had a two-rocket arachnotron kill here, yippie! :-)
MM-15 - Karmacoma
-----------------
The start of this map is excellent but I don't care for the rest - too
few monsters for such a large area. The ending is also rather ho hum
with an invulnerability sphere and about 3 times the ammo needed.
I leave via the secret exit which is a rocket jump like E3M6. 80% secrets is
the maximum.
MM-16 - Stoned
--------------
I doubt anyone can get 100% secrets on this. It has a fairly tough start,
but lots of powerups...
MM-17 - House Of Thorn
----------------------
The designer of this map is extremely clever. The placement of the
megaspheres is ingenious but I show how to reach them. I like the central
mansion surrounded by it's courtyard. The only thing I don't like about
this map is that all the hallways are so narrow there is very little room
to maneuver (watch the first Arch Vile trap me). 100% secrets is impossible.
MM-18 - A Dead Man's Town
-------------------------
Definitely the hardest of the maps I recorded. The way the powerups are
spread around are a bit strange as well. I really hate it when you are
locked into a room for 30 idle seconds with nothing to do. (yellow key)
MM-19 - Maltraiter
------------------
Not a great map, but nice and quite small. The crusher is quite annoying,
the opening switch is nice, the rest has nothing special.
MM-20 - Mountain Depot
----------------------
I just love this map. My one and only cybie, just run through it while
fight down all opposition, very easy as well..
MM-21 - Twilight Lab
--------------------
Quite complicated map, it has great looks, perhaps a trifle too big..
MM-22 - The Escape
------------------
It has 2 spiderdemons that will fight each other, that is the most fun
part of it, too dark..
MM-23 - Showdown
----------------
A very fun map, not amazing visually, but tons of powerups for tons of
monsters. I wanted to get it under 10 minutes and succeeded, it's very easy
with all the health and ammo scattered around. There are no secrets here.
MM-24 - Diehard
---------------
A nice Living-End-style map, but Dario did them better in Plutonia :-) So
many cells for so little monsters, you nearly have enough to kill the whole
map twice with only cells! (I calculated it with DMTHA, so I don't
exaggerate here) I ran to the BFG as soon as possible and then fired, fired,
fired...
MM-25 - Cesspool
----------------
The easiest of the maps that I did, it has three soulspheres, one
megaarmour and one megasphere!!! Besides that it has lots of ammo and
internal monsterfights, too easy..
MM-26 - Between Scattered Corpses
---------------------------------
Another nice map with many monsters and lots of powerups, I think the end of
this one is one of my best scenes in this whole collection (from the last
door everything goes perfectly). With so much health and ammo it's not a
challenge.
MM-27 - Fort Hades
------------------
This map is very well thought out, although it's amazing how much
running around is required for such a small map. The staircase by the
chaingun must be passed four times to get to the exit with maximum
secrets! Careful timing is required with the radiation suits in this run.
The ammo has also been thoughtfully placed, and you have to be
careful not to run out (unlike other maps). 100% secrets are impossible to
get here.
MM-28 - City Of The Unavenged
-----------------------------
This was the biggest map, I have ever played. It is quite confusing at first
sight, a lot of switches with no visible actions. It is even more confusing
after you played it one hour and didn't finished yet... the second problem is
the secrets... I visited every secret sector and not 100% secrets maybe my
mistake, maybe a bug, anyway you will see every secret sector.
I had some mistakes, especially with archvilles, but it's quite enjoyable, some
braveheart fighting with less than 20% or 10% health... I got lost only for
some seconds, and a nice cybie killing scene, unfortunately there is a
surviver, a silly shotgunner, at the exit corner. Kill him when you walk there!
MM-29 - Island Of Death
-----------------------
This is a coop optimized map, there are some elevators controllable from
distance, they are not showed this time, I don't have a remote control ;-)
I'm sure that 100% kill is possible too, but this time some monsters didn't
teleport in ;-( There is an archville too, with his help I could get even
more than 100% kills.
MM-30 - Viper
-------------
A great ending map, original boss situation. Using the BFG strategy is not
easy, you have to have a very good aim. And beating Andy Badorek's 1:36 lmp
was not too easy, didn't take many tries though. I also didn't avoid the
cyberdemon's rockets to have exactly this kind of exciting finish - I love
them! :-)
MM-31 - Technology Base
-----------------------
This is a coop optimized level, you may ask how could I get 100% kills?
The answer is a tricky jump, with that you can get in the coop area and kill
the monsters out there. The jump could be done easily from the teleport, just
turn to right a little bit and simply walk (not run!) and you will land in
the second player's area. But you need some luck to finish with 100% kills
because there are some monsters who sometimes doesn't teleport in. I got some
tries with 99% kills and almost 2 mins faster than this lmp ;-((
I hate these monster teleport tricks.
MM-32 - The Hidden Slime Factory
--------------------------------
Quite a boring map, I'm pretty happy with the lmp though except the telefrag
chase with the baron, I had no idea where he is and wasted some time there.
In the start there are even some ammo problems until you reach the boxes of
shells.

That's it - enjoy the lmps!
