About This File

You are blasting hordes of demons on the martian satellite, Deimos. You flip a switch and are teleported to a different place. You can just barely breath the air. It is heavier, and very hot. The walls seem to shift due to the incredible heat. Because of these facts you believe you have been sent deeper into the moon. The rooms and such also seem to be of much more demonic construction than human. You don't know what to expect, and can see that the path only seems to lead deeper, and get darker. You quench your thirst in the fountain you have landed on and...

Ok, i know i sorta missed the buzz around doom, so thats why my wads

one of the best of the 90s, by far. super good stuff. demands knowledgeable application of several obtuse skill sets. also totally makes you forget you're playing doom 1, which a lot of modern doom 1 wads don't even achieve.

[edit] i keep coming back to this - this is my favorite doom 1 wad behind tambourine tangerine.

Good map for chad players who don't get upset at deaths. Feels like if you took an easy modern shitposty puzzle-platforming map and decked it out in oldschool Doom chaotic texturing (like Monti) rather than a more modern texture spam style. Disconcerting teleporations, point-blank baron pairs vs. BFG, snaking awkward tunnels with nukage that will kill you if you don't have enough health, "weird machinery"-style multi-stage layout manipulation, bizarre unmarked teleporters, completionist trolling, unnecessary secret blursphere, platforming with height differences, fountains, barrel puzzles, "Tim" ... all in a 5-10 minute map. Return to monke.

Hellish esoterica, doesn't give a fuck about the player at all and would be worse off if it did. Almost feels like a handful of rooms from the more gimmicky ASS entries, or the D5DA series were stapled together.

I'm really dubitative about this level…

The two comments bellow me explain pretty well the problem. In a hand the map is just frustrating at best, in the other the concept is cool and would just had needed a little bit more polish so you can understand what's happening on the level.

I didn't even finished the map to be honest, not my taste at all. A map should always be first try-able, if it is not you failed.

I would be tempted to follow the author's suggestion of copying this wad to a disk and peeing on it, if that were not a waste of a perfectly good disk. Awful level, which starts out with an area where every ledge you walk over teleports you elsewhere for no apparent reason other than to screw with you. Then there's a nukage race, then one against exploding barrels with torches in your way, then an annoying chasm-ish part and it just gets worse. I'm not sure if this level is even survivable.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
