Check out this Nice PWAD; single, cooperative & DeathMatch playing.
================================================================
Title : Nice
Filename : Nice.WAD
Author : Jose Luis Gallardo
Email Address :
Misc. Author Info :
Description : A nice PWAD good for single player, cooperative
and DeathMatch. There is some extra stuff in
multiplayer mode. In DeathMatch there are some
locked ways, so the fighting arena gets smaller,
that's nice for DeathMatching (this level is
huge, you know).

Build time : About 20+ hours, included testing.
Editor(s) used : DEU 5.21, VNB, DeuTex, DCK (I know, some of these
editors are DOOM editors, but they work properly
with Heretic), and a couple of utilities I
programmed myself: JOSED & PCX2LMP. Have a look at
the end of this file if you want to know how I
managed to make DOOM editors work with Heretic.
Known Bugs : none
* Copyright / Permissions *
You may use this level as a base to build additional levels, but give credits!
Anyway I would not do it, there are some new textures here, and you may have
problems with that, if you don't know much about PWADs
You MAY distribute this WAD, provided you include this file, with
no modifications. You may distribute this file in any electronic
format (BBS, Diskette, CD, etc) as long as you include this file
intact.

Wherever you may roam.
* How did I do it ? *
Well, DEU & VNB work nice with Heretic, so there was no problem with that,
but DeuTex just didn't work, I had to rename heretic.wad to doom.wad but still
it didn't work, because DeuTex does some DOOM-palette checking, so I did
this: I extracted DOOM's palette file from doom.wad (this file is called
PLAYPAL, if you don't know it). Then I made a PWAD with DOOM's PLAYPAL,
I merged it to heretic.wad (renamed to doom.wad), and then it worked!
But palettes did not look properly after restoring heretic.wad. So I had
to think. After some thinking, just by chance, I did something that saved me:
I modified first palette from DOOM's PLAYPAL file with my PCTOOLS 4.21,
I merged it to heretic.wad (renamed to doom.wad), and I saw that DeuTex
palette checking was alright, so I thought: Well, so first palette is not
checked, but the rest, or some of the rest, they are (if you don't know
I'll tell you that PLAYPAL contains 14 palettes and first palette is the one
that's displayed most of the time in DOOM & Heretic, I mean, the one that any
new texture or graphic should have). So I realized that I needed a PLAYPAL
file with these requeriments:
-First palette had to be Heretic's one.
-The other palettes had to be DOOM's ones.
Affortunately, I'm a nice Pascal programmer, and that meant no problem at all
to me (because, of course, I knew PLAYPAL's format). So I did that PLAYPAL
file I needed, put it into a PWAD, and then, each time I need it, I just
have to rename heretic.wad to doom.wad and merge that PWAD, and DeuTex works
alright! I'd rather get a copy of HeuTex (if it exists), but well, at least
I can make new PWADs with new textures & graphics.
About the utilities I designed, they are PCX2LMP and JOSED.
JOSED is an editor that allows you to change message-LMP files; these are the
files that are diplayed when you quit Heretic or DOOM, or when you are
loading Heretic, there are some editors like this one I programmed,
but I just hadn't one! So I had a look to one of these LMP files with
PCTOOLS 4.21 (this program is GREAT) to see its format, then I coded
JOSED with Turbo Pascal 7.0 (another GREAT tool).
PCX2LMP is an editor that just convert PCX image files to raw LMP files,
Heretic uses this files for the title screen and for the automap page.
I coded this again with TP 7.0 (I told you, I'm a Nice Pascal Programmer).
I supposse there must be lots of tools like these everywhere. I had to program
them because I just didn't have anyone!
* About the song included *
As I told you, it was taken from BEDLAM.WAD a DOOM1 PWAD, it was extracted
with DeuTex, then included in Nice.WAD. Creeping Death is one of my
favourite songs (perhaps my favourite one), so I included it here.
