While Hell Revealed levels aren't as visually
pleasing as Requiem or AV levels, they are all
about the fantastically challenging gameplay and
thus deserve their place in the annals of DOOM!

Extremely hard wad. I'm a hardcore player, and I've just completed it only on medium difficulty. And it's REAL hard. Not sure if I want to do it in Ultra-Violence. I guess I'll do, because if not this would be the only map that I can't beat on hard. Note: This megawad isn't beautiful or artistic: it's just about gameplay. There are very few level that are pretty to see. Even though, 26 it's beautiful! Favorite level: 22 5/5

This is one of the best I've played. There's plenty of ammo and health around to keep the juices flowing. Puzzles galore, and I sure do wish there were more that are this good. BIG kudos!!

... I played a third of it and got bored. But I'll take into account everybody else's reviews, which brings my rating up from a 2 to a 3.

This is dated May 1997. It's a popular vintage megawad, famous for its "never mind the bollocks" design and its brutally hard gameplay. Even by modern standards it's tough. Against it, roughly the first dozen maps are mundane, and the last couple aren't great either; and the traps sometimes absolutely require foreknowledge, leading to a save-die-reload routine that's not to my taste. But when it works - Maps 13-26 inclusive, basically - it's incredible.

^Nah it's the wad that eats nubs alive by making them squeal and call for mommy. Players who deserve being called Doomers enjoy this masterpiece for its high difficulty combined with the need to think and play strategically.

Well, if you are asking about good hard Doom megawads, this one is surely one of the first to come up. While wads like AV, HR2, and maybe a few others have rivalled it in the 10 years since its release, this still remains as THE classic super-hard wad even today. The levels themselves, though? Well, though most are not extrodinary, they are still mostly pretty nice even for today, with some nice-looking areas, a few innovative areas, and some nice designs. A MUST play, unless you hate hard levels!

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
