The Sky May Be

About This File

Requires Doom 1.6 or above.

This is the STRANGEST wad ever made. Most of the action takes place in a cube 8192x8192x8192 in size.. A two-year production with more new graphics than any other PWAD in the known galaxy. Built using monomolecular technology in DEU! (Grid size 4:1 is still too small [sigh])

This is without a doubt the strangest wad ever made. Ah, but is it the worst? ...well, that depends on who you ask. I happen to like it. 5/5

It may be crap, but at least it's funny crap: look at it that way. Sort of like the Monty Python of Dooming. 5 white stars. :) - Obsidian

This is the weirdest .wad ever, you have surely succeeded at that. I do like the new challenge with the Blessed Engine, Imps are actually worth noticing now. Barons require some expert dodging, and of course the Spider Mastermind that can walk on walls is a nifty challenge as well. My only complaint is that it did not go far enough with the insanity, and the lack of DOOM II craziness. If ever you two make a new Blessed Engine or a The Sky May Be 2 I will most assuredly download it.

Everything about this wad is liquid genius - the insane Dehacked and sprites, the bizarro sounds, the creative and ingenious level design, and of course the individual concepts which give the wad its quirky humor - "Murder In The Dark!", Crate Castle, Stairway To Heaven, The Firmament, etc. Every element of this wad flows together beautifully to create an adventure of legendary design, proportion, and experience. No other jokewad can ever possibly top this. 5/5 - Wills

You can always tell when a wad is not good. The fact there are many 5/5's and as many 0/5's just shows the level of unimaginable incompetence the reviewers have. The levels have had the same amount of aforethought as an accidental fart in polite company. The build quality is the same as a cheap Chinese toy that later wounds your infant child. 0/5

I played the wad with vanilla doom. This wad was one of my favorites of all time. Its so quirky and innovative. But I have to say my favorite part about it (which unfortunately is negated in ports) has to be when you open the door which tells you to deliberately not open it. If you do, it would crash the game taking you back to the command prompt with this error message: "I told you not to open that door!". This alone makes it worthy of 5 stars.

To give this a score of 5/5 is like being happy you were diagnosed with terminal cancer.

The YTP of Doom. Some people will enjoy it while others will hate it, either way forever establishing this delightfully psychotic mental anyeurism of a wad as a cult classic. It is legend, therefore it gets the legendary rating. Now excuse me as I attempt to piece together the remainder of my puny little mind after playing this.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
