DOOM JR.

About This File

Welcome back to hell. Doom Jr. is 30 Doom][ levels mad by me*. That's right 30. They completly replace every Doom][ level. And, let me tell you, just because I'm 15 it dosen't mean they're a picnic. There are Cacodemons, demons, imps and more Cyberdemon's than you can imagine. There are 5 new boss boards, one includes you and 3 Cyberdemons. It starts out insanely easy, a few zombiemen, a imp here and there, maybe a demon, but before you know it you're up to your neck in lost souls, mancubi, arachnotrons, and arch-viles. Like I said, welcome back to hell.

Now, now... I own a doom editor for a week now and... I simply am way better than you! Look at the textures! All mixed up! Shit arquitecture and motherfuckin' placement of monsters! You better your editor (to DoomBuilder for example) or go fishin'!!! The one star is for the trigger engine (it's not so bad, not bad at all!).

Is this your idea of a joke? Okay, I know the first level's supposed to be short, but not THIS short! And the room filled with imps and teleporters, where you have to get to the door but you're teleported everywhere but the door? Fail, man. Epic fail.

Heh, yeah, it's horrible, but cyb himself adimtted so. I guess he was just too ambitious nad not skilled enough back then. Now that we all know he went on to create trully GOOD maps, and he himself regretted releasing this, maybe everyone should stop mocking the man for this.

One of those 'awful quality classics'. Well it does make one point, we all have to start somewhere.

It's a good thing cyb got better. As it stands, this is a testament to how much he has improved, and he improved A LOT. Because of that, this wad deserves one star.

As another reviewer points out, it's worth playing the demos. The author uses the keyboard - he doesn't run, or sidestep, and his aim is terrible. In level 17 he gets lost in his own map. The level themselves are terrible today, they would have been terrible in 1997, and they would have been terrible in 1996, when the author started making them. The readme mentions an ancestor of id=3921 ("the inpgod (sic) bug").

"Everything" is in there. ie: bad defs that let you see into other rooms, poorly made doors, 1994 styling... 2 stars -z34chris

Um...if you can make a level hard, it's not a sign of a good level. A level has to be fun to play and not just be a tedious slog.

It certainly isn't the best work of Cyb, definitely not. But he VASTLY improved over the years and created famous wads such as Massmouth, and Void. To me, that's pretty awesome and proves that anyone can get better overtime with wad making. People don't really realize that this guy was one of the best wad makers there was. - Netherstorm

My favorite part of this wad is the complete inability of all the other reviewers to determine whether it's a put-on or not. Is it real? Or is Cyb laughing all the way to the exit? Hmmmmm?

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
