About This File

Because of three different authors the theme and style differed greatly, but with a little refining the whole thing clicked. A hellish level with a few traps, tricks and unwanted welcomes... enjoy

Interesting idea to build the map between 3 authors. Short but entertaining. It wakes you up fast.

A pretty great classic map. The trap room beyond the yellow key door is about the hardest part of the level, but other than that the other challenges are well balanced and fun on UV.

It's not too hard on UV, but maybe I've played this game so much I'm just too good lol. I'm very good at FPS in general. Doom was just my first FPS (well after wolfenstein). Anyways, a great level... old school... some decent detail. Overrated? For a 1997 map? No... I don't think so. 4/5

a legendary rating for a legendary wad. although it is only a single level, it is better than a good id level (which are really good as we doomers/wolfers/othe r id gamers know). if you havent tryed this level, download it! itll be the best 74k youve ever downloaded for doom files

The design is "old schoold - oookay", not a single room stands out. Gameplay - the big area where the player starts his adventure is very good. After that, almost every battle is awfully planned. A BFG9000 under a crusher... do we like THAT?. 3/5 stars, vdgg, as it is not a bad map, just overrated.

Short, compact and on places crampy map with a classic look-and-feel and a bit chaotic gameplay. For a '97 map not bad at all, but not even remotely legendary. As such: 3.5/5

This one's rather challenging on UV, but AV and HR fans will find it right up their alley. A decent mixture of styles, with widely differing challenges in each area. This map will have you hit the ground running, and it hardly ever slows down. Ammo and health are tight, but not to an unfair point. All in all, this WAD gets a 5 for good design and tons of action. -'ven

This is one of Doomworld's top 100 wads of all time. It's good fun, but not that good. It starts off hectic but quickly mellows out, although there's a tricky bit with an archvile. You get plenty of rockets, and a BFG that you don't really need. Design-wise, it starts as a tasteful castle that would have slotted into the original levels, then there's a so-so hellish underworld dungeon. The gameplay is solid but easy by modern standards.

This is so sweet. 4/5 and +1 for BFG trap = 5/5. That trap was obvious.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
