the premise of Treasure Hunt is a bit silly, but it works out when you realize what you're doing as you play along. it's a WolfenDoom set where you infiltrate a compound, going all the way down until you reach the final treasure room, and then you go all the way back to the start level-by-level but with tougher opposition! that's quite novel if you ask me. the gameplay appropriately scales too, making this one of the more fun ones gameplay-wise. there's some symmetry, especially in the second level, which is kinda boring, and the red brick basement level with the mutants is a dumb linear path, but the rest of the set seems to be done a bit better. MAP01 actually isn't too good, again, because of hitscanner-heavy combat in an open field. it's got quite a lot of optional areas to explore though.

but of course there's some major flaws. it's likely one'll play this with the ZDoom compatibility pk3 like I did, and since projectiles are blocked by sprites in ZDoom, that renders quite a few of the boss enemies useless. I mean specifically the Grosse ones of course, as the Ubermutant is a big hitscanner while the rest are Doom reskins. the concept of going back through and seeing all the bodies you killed is cool, along with getting hidden passageways and uncovering more traps. this one is definitely not perfect, but it has a fun premise and plays pretty average overall.

The "flaw" with some ports is an error in the deh file. To fix, open it in notepad and look for this ... Thing 3 (sargeant) Hit points = 50 Speed = 9 Alert sound = 101 Death sound = 102 Far Attack Frame = 736 fix to this ... Thing 3 (sargeant) Hit points = 50 Speed = 9 Alert sound = 101 Death sound = 102 Far Attack Frame = 736 ... simple yet true.

To Fix the .deh ( and non-running in prboom+ ) just open the deh in notepad and re-save. It works.

Which port is this supposed to be played in? It's flawed in both ZDoom and PrBoom+.

Laz, you are one of the worst WAD creators ever. Half of your conversions suck, and they don't ever work right.

Not bad - and I really like the fact that you have to fight your way back outside after grabbing the treasures. (Why does it start on MAP03 instead of MAP01, though?)

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
