The beginning of the End Part II for the Boom mod

About This File

My follow up to The Beginning of the end. Lots of new stuff here. All these levels have an original feel to them. You will enjoy playing these wads! But be warned... they are tough! I know you have heard it before but these levels really are tough! I spent COUNTLESS hours on these levels, making sure they are some of the best levels out there. You won't be dissapointed in these levels. (Individual level descriptions below) Ok, just so y'all know, I really BARELY used the cool stuff that Boom can do. Next to nothing. But There is still a lot of nifty little tricks that you may think are cause of Boom. Plus these wads would suck if I didn't use Boom, cause a few of the levels are too big to save on using normal ol' Doom. Enjoy! If you liked these wads, hated em, anything, let me know! Thanks.

another mostly nice mapset, but it doesn't hold a candle to end1. fucking tougher too, e3m6's secret exit is a ball buster utilizing rocket jumping and almost extreme precision, while e3m8 tries to be unique yet quite annoying with the voodoo dolls around. for the most part though, combat is excellent, lots of enemies to slaughter in each map.

Lots of really cool ideas again, much like the first one. It's certainly got it's own unique atmosphere for an episode 3 replacement for Doom with the starry sky; my only gripe is that both this and the first one had their own frustrating moments, only I felt they were less forgiving here. By the way this was one of the most fun coop experiences when I first played it over Thursday Night Survival.

These levels are pretty good even today, they
don't seem so "old-school" than the levels in its
predecessor. Unfortunately some of the fun-factor
of end1 has disappeared on the way. End1 even had
better Metallica songs!

On the positive side, these levels are more
detailed and have better architecture. You should
probably play both of these wads!

This is incredibly difficult, but rather fun. I think UV isn't really the difficulty of choice here, although how you'd make the last level beatable I can't begin to imagine. I preferred the first part to this one. 3* -Phobus

It's rare to see these "dumb" Ultimate Doom monsters used in such a creative way. You don't need -fast monsters, -respawn monsters, it's tough without them. Respect.

I genuinely enjoyed this mod with its level design and music. It was challenging and interesting and it kept me playing a while after beating it to try to find anything. though I would say it was slightly repetitive and overwhelming with enemies at some moments.

Writing a review for Darkening 2 is tough. It's a beloved megawad, and for good reason. As many other reviewers have said, it is historically a very important project.   It was an important megawad for me personally. I fell in love with the first level in particular. The music, the realistic architecture, so reminiscent of the video games of the 90s... It all left a lasting impression. And it was one of the most beautiful wads I've seen at the time.   But I rarely played anyt

A competently made map, for sure, but fun? It's way too long and repetitive, with same-y combat & ambush scenarios used again and again, and with way too much enemies, and not that much of a challenge, even for me who isn't exactly fond of "SUPER HARD WAD #9263!!!!11!. You can cut the whole thing in half, and then cut THAT half in half, and it would be a better map. Is it bad? No, just a little bit above average, mostly because it drags a bit too long.

Generally good map design, but the difficulty as is the case with pwads tends to be uneven even on HMP, especially when you mix them with what slaughtermaps tend to be (monster spam). Too many parts where, after pressing a switch, you'll spend some time killing enemies only to realise the map maker tried to get cute and spawned a bunch of hidden archviles somewhere to start reviving everyone while you were busy wasting ammo. This is especially unfun in parts with very little cover where you'll b

I like the part where I pay for the numerous murders I committed by getting beaten up by either a Mancubus or an Arachnotron, it changed my outlook on Monster Priority. Thank you "Problematic" Revenant #7, I have yet to find a way to repay him.
